So, my car hits one year next Thursday and is going into the dealer for it's 1-year oil change and annual state inspection. This morning, I got an email saying that in this time of social distancing the dealer is now offering free pickup and delivery for service work

Great! I no longer have to choose between (a) dragging my wife out twice to drop it off / pick it up or (b) sitting in their waiting room for an hour or so. Wonderful! I'll just have the two lowest paid employees of the service department come to my house, hand them the fob to my 460 HP / 6-speed car, and then watch them roll off down the street for an unsupervised ride on the interstate to and from the dealership.

Ummmm ...... No. Thanks for the offer, but definitely no.

Program one of your keys to limit abuse.
Fair cop. I could limit the speed, keep it out of Sport/Track/Drag modes, and keep traction control on. That being said, with a manual I couldn't stop clutch dumps or "Hey, Charlie, you want to learn to drive stick?".

Look on the bright side some $10 an hour monkey will finally learn to drive a manual LOL
Cmon what could go wrong? Just an excuse to upgrade the clutch right? Jk jk. Heck no I wouldn’t allow me to take it. Most of the younger guys unless they themselves have a manual know how to drive. Many that don’t, think they do though.

True on the clutch dumps, but I believe you can limit RPM's also.....not sure.

Not according to my OM. The things above, plus a few others (radio volume, adult satellite channels, speed nags, etc.)

Doesn't appear you can limit the RPM until you hit the normal 7500 rev limiter. Pity. They could have used a programmable limiter to also limit RPM when the engine is cold.

I wouldn't be worried about a young Mustang GT owner like you very much but the guy that owns the Honda with his hat on sideways is another matter :)

I understand and appreciate the concern. Not sure how it is elsewhere, but at my dealership, the service department uses the same part time "drivers" that sales uses for dealer swaps, etc. Those folks are older responsible drivers - generally retired. That's what I do for fun lol:)!!! Out of the two dozen or so drivers I work with, none would abuse or horse around with a customer's car. Most are pretty proficient with a manual transmission. A lot of them have their own "pride and joy" cars, and several of us have Mustangs.

I realize it may not be like this elsewhere, but I would hope a dealership would be pretty respectful of a customer's investment and careful about who drives customer vehicles. If they aren't, I think I'd be suspicious of their service period. [

Nice to have that information. I wonder if it's likely—or even possible—to have that ideal transplanted to SoCal, where I once got a five-mile oil/filter change. At lunchtime. I wrote and called several levels of the Ford bureaucracy, got an "I'm sorry" from each and it never happened to me again. Can't speak for others.
