Hey guys just wanted to share this little mod with everyone.

I was trying to figure out an alternative to the leather button-clip seatbelt Guides we have on our cars, cause mine was starting to rip. I came across this thread, but the parts were $150 plus shipping from Australia for a couple pieces of plastic!

Anyways, I looked into it deeper, and found that the $150 seatbelt guides looked identical to the Chevy Cobalt seatbelt guides, so I ordered a new driver's side Cobalt guide for $15 off eBay. It came in and the holes were off, and too narrow, so I drilled out the oblong hole to 1/2", and drilled out an additional 1/2" hole to line up with the mustang's headrest rods - a silver sharpie really helps here.
That did the trick, and I think it turned out pretty good! Take a look for yourself :}.

Wow man I'm loving this mod! I was looking into this as well due to not really loving the leather belt holder. I almost swapped to the recaros due to the awesome belt setup but they are way too pricey and I did not want to loose my heated/cooled seats. I'm going to start looking for these holders on eBay as well. We're these from like a 2006 Cobalt or newer?

Thanks for sharing!. Awesome mod!... Once mounted, is plastic guide held steady?. Does it move /wobble?. Can you post a pic showing a bottom view with guide mounted?

Yeah agreed I hated that leather piece, the angle of the belt always cut into my neck too, super annoying. This really fixes the belt angle, everything is comfy now. I'm not sure of the year of the cobalt but, here's the listing I bought:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/323413879396

And yes it's rock solid, I had to slowly work the guide onto the rods since it was such a tight fit. The headrest rods are exactly 1/2", so the friction prevents any movement. It all comes down to drilling it straight, to 1/2". The plastic is thick enough that it prevents any vertical rocking, if that's what you're wondering about.

I'm so glad to hear that everyone is having so much success with this mod! I actually just ordered the passenger side guide off eBay for $20. (price is higher for this side, hmm) Looking forward to having the matching set :}.

If you didn't catch Robbo_75's post above, the part ID for the passenger side Cobalt guide piece is: 10386174

Listing I bought:

Dealers around here didn't have the 15-17 model in their system. It was very odd. They got me the 11-14 instead. 11-14 belt extensions do NOT work on 15-17s.

Did the driver's side guide last night. Definitely makes a difference. 100% recommended.

Only complain is the lack of bring able to make it flush with the headrest.

Hmm that's weird, mine is able to get a good deal more flush than that, if you take a look at my pictures. On the Lowest setting with the guide installed I can gently force it into locking the right headrest post in but not the left, which is enough for me. You could always take a heatgun to the seatbelt guide and try to bend it around that seat-arch-hump-neck bolster thing. I might actually try that this weekend.

Sorry, i meant flush downward against the seat versus against the head rest. Just to make it pretty is all.

Yeah I get what you're going for. I'm going to try and heat up and bend the passenger side one when I install it this weekend, to see if I can overcome the pointy-seat bit thing that prevents it from being perfect. I'll let you know how it goes!
