Hey guys,

This is my first post, so be gentle..! I'm new to my S550, had it for about 5 weeks now, and have already come to really detest to the stock "flap" style seatbelt guides.

I recently came across EcoSVO's idea for using Chevy Cobalt seatbelt guides for our headrests, but Cobalt guides are no longer available on the GM parts websites, and increasingly expensive on eBay. I looked into a few different other vehicles with similar guide styles (2010+ Challenger, older Monte Carlo, Pontiac G6, etc.), but they're too expensive.

Fast forward to last night, when I had an idea. I had bought a bunch of "multi-hanger hangers" on Amazon; the kind that holds 5 clothes hangers, and then lays flat. They're around $12 for a 10-pack. Turns out the holes are almost exactly 1/2", which a quick pass with the drill evens out. I wish a hole for the other side lined up, but it stays in place pretty surprisingly well, anyway. Might round it out with the Dremel, to have it snap in place, but it's fine for now!

Anyway, happy to have some seatbelt retention that isn't too obtrusive, easy off for loading the kids up, and fits the seat lines! I looped the magnetic flap over it, to keep it place a bit more.

Hopefully someone else finds this helpful!

I got mine from the local pick-a-part junkyard a couple months ago from a rear ended Cobalt SS. $3 total.

You could also use I think it's the 2 door Saturn Ion... bodys with rear suicide doors at least. They do have a different... and unappealing... guide style than the Cobalt, but they mount the same way on the headrest. Just a idea. :like:

My buddy actually just found me a driver's side Cobalt guide for $5 at the u-pull, so I'll have that in soon! This worked for the time being. Thanks!

Not hating or anything negative so don't take this the wrong way, but I'm on my 2nd S550 and I've never had an issue with the magnetic strap. So I'm curious what's the purpose of doing this ? I'm a tall guy at 6ft and surprisingly I don't feel like I'm getting choked or anything like that

The strap works fine, all right, but the seatbelt rubbing against the seat will ruin the leather in no time. I guess it might be fine with cloth seats.

I dont have the straps, but I did notice the start of the rubbing issue on the sharp edge of the Recaro. This was my fix :

It seems to be working well, but I am hoping the bennifits should more noticeable in the years to come :like:
