I have a 2016 with "base" radio system (you know, the pathetic calculator screen).

I want to upgrade to a larger screen and my biggest requirement is that I be able to run Waze while the car is moving.

I won't say I don't care what the cost is, but I'm not afraid to spend money if it's necessary.

I don't have a GPS fin or egg on the car so I'm not interested in factory style or vehicle originated navigation. The phone's we carry are way better and waze or google maps are much better navigation applications/networks (in my opinion) than any other I've seen.

I have a Samsung so android auto seems to be the ticket (although my work phone is an iphone).

Would something like the phoenix screen and "mirroring" be the best/better option? I've read all the horror stories about the Phoenix style screens (the bootup times, the glare, etc).

I'm okay with either an 8" factory looking screen and bezel or the big Tesla style.

So what's the best option? Hellhorse (would prefer NOT to deal with them, I haven't had very good customer service with them), Navos? Phoenix audio?

In the end I want a bigger screen and I want to be able to run waze off my phone's GPS and internet connectivity.

Thanks for your help/suggestions.

Waze works with Android Auto so the Sync2 to Sync3 upgrade is a very good option. I did it to my 2016 Base GT. Not only do you get the larger touch screen with the ability to use Waze through Android Auto, you also get the toggle switches for Drive modes.

I used to attach my Android with a phone holder gadget and suction cup to the windshield to have Waze. Worked like a charm.

Many here collect the parts themselves and spend a lot less. I just wanted a hassle free experience where everything just worked so I spent $1900 with infotainment.com and installed the 8 inch with sync 3 into my base 17. Have had it for 3 weeks and it has worked almost flawlessly. I run Waze as well.

I say almost flawlessly because today for a few seconds the screen went blank and I have no idea why. It quickly came back on and never malfunctioned again. Seems that happens occasionally even on some new cars with sync.

You can find the parts pretty inexpensively, you just then have to deal with all the Forscan changes and they are numerous.

So what else would I need to make these 3 components work? I have a 2016 base radio/screen

An adapter harness to mate the components with the wiring harness you have in the car. After that Forescan editing to enable the features, etc..

Making your own harness and doing all the Forscan edits will be your hard part.

So I'm getting the impression there isn't a prefabbed adapter harness on the market. I'm not keen on trying to create one, I'm capable, but that seems daunting and frustrating.

The FORSCAN stuff I could probably struggle through with help, but creating harnesses is probably beyond me.

There are pre-made harnesses you can buy I'm sure. When I was buying mine I just went for a complete kit, however I would have saved a lot piecing it together.

I’ve been building the best Sync swap harness kits since 2017. As the only Sync 3 specialist with Roush and Ford employees we have access to information about Ford electrical architecture that our competition never will. You can save money purchasing from us as I sell Ford parts for less than even Tasca. You can PM for more information.

Thanks, I reached out to him

Angrey, unfortunately the bezel isn't out of a GT350. They have more of a bronze coloring on the switches. Check with Tom about this, make sure you ask him about this as the GT350 stuff complicates some stuff. I may be incorrect about this, but make sure you bring it up.

I have to say as a 300a base Mustang GT owner, the 8" screen conversion along with the Katzkin leather interior are the best mods I did.
