That was my initial thought too, but I'm not so versed in other classes, lol.
For our cars, you've got FS (stock), STU (some mods, not others), ESP (pretty open, but some odd restrictions, and ESP uses race slicks), and CAM-C (200TW street tires, but basically wide open otherwise, only real restrictions are it has to have an interior, and no serious wings).

In this case his mods put him out of FS and STU, (and possibly out of ESP too, I'd have to check). Between ESP and CAMC, CAMC runs normal tires, ESP is slicks, so CAMC would be preferred.

CAM is pretty popular in my local region - we never got more than 3 or so STP cars at a time, but we regularly see as many as 14 CAM cars. CAM is an index class, so a local events we're running a PAX class which includes CAMT (older cars), CAMC (mustangs and camaros) and CAMS (faster cars like Corvettes). The CAMS covettes have a PAX handicap versus the CAMC mustangs, so they have to run a bit faster to win the class.

i hear SASCA is going to allow ride along passengers (and thus rinstructors) when they resume in 2021. Maybe I can hop in with you and coach a little. Burdette too. He’s fast and is a good teacher.

Yep. I'll keep a lookout for event announcements.

I am also interested in going to the next level and doing a little racing or time trials. I have about 25 track days under my belt. For this CAM-C class, what type of roll cage is required if you are supposed to leave the interior in the car?

Autox - no roll cage required. Don't bother doing anything that will make the car less streetable or annoying to live with.

TT/Road race - Hopefully someone else can chime in who's knowledgeable about classes.

I have already crossed that boundary. The car still has an interior but it has race seats 4 point roll / harness bar and 5 point restraints, so I understand what you mean, as I don't drive the car hardly at all other that on track days.

I was mainly wandering if there was some road racing or TT that I could do with my current setup.

Given that turbo car won National Championship and 1/LE Turbo Camaro is basically at CAM-C minimum weight without any modifications, well driven turbo car will be plenty competitive with V8s.

There are distinctions but not in CAM-C - too many mods for this to matter.

Comment to previous posts - spherical bearings would put you outside ESP as well but if I am not mistaken they just got allowed for Street Prepared in a latest Fasttrack.

I've been a member of the SCCA since 89. It is always best to go directly to the rule book when you have questions. Now days it have never been easier since the latest version of every rule book can be downloaded FOR FREE.

www.scca.com > Programs > choose your poison

Time Trials
https://timetrials.scca.com/pages/national-competition-procedures
AutoX
https://www.scca.com/pages/solo-cars-and-rules

The SCCA updates rules on a monthly basis via the Fastrack Process. Each month preliminary versions of Fastrack are released for member comment. Published Fastrack rule changes that are effective immediately are used to update the respective rule books.

For Autox I would say that the rules are pretty stable. Usually the changes involve the addition of new cars in the Street Tire categories. I am involved in Road Racing and for certain classes the rules are very fluid....which is not always a good thing.

CAM (Classic American Muscle) is fairly unique in that the SCCA takes a pretty hands off approach to it. Compared other classed there are very few rules. I run my 2017 GT in CAM-C and I love being able to drive to the event on the tires I am competing on.

SCCA Time Trials is evolving but the program looks really promising. They have a National Tour and National Championship events. I ran my RX7 in a Midiv Time Trials event in 2019 to get some track time. It was very affordable compared to running a club race.
