S550 GT Premium MPGs

Hey Everyone,

I just got my new 2016 Mustang GT Premium California Special about 2 months ago and have about 2000 miles on it so far. It's my first mustang and I'm loving it! I'm a little concerned about the gas mileage I'm getting on it. I'm typically not very hard on it and I drive in mostly suburban driving, so it's not highway and it's not sitting in traffic either. I'm currently averaging about 16-17 MPG. Is this normal? Is the engine too new to get better mileage?

Sounds about right in your conditions. I have a 70 mile mostly highway commute, and I do a few hard pulls a day usually on my two lane stretch and the on ramps. I also like to wind out the gears in stoplight to stoplight traffic. I average a very consistent 19. If you were to take it on a trip and stay in 6th for the most part, you would probably see as much as 25mpg.

Plus, being in the pittsburgh area according to your profile, I would say you spend more time going uphill than most people. It's the same for me. In my tacoma I've never done better than 19 and average about 17. I've tried all the tricks...it's the hills that are getting me.

Take a trip down 79 to Charleston..all downhill. You'll probably get 29!

my parents house doesn't have much traffic. I get about 20mpg city all the time, easy. Where I live I get about 16-17 because of heavy traffic. I get about 25-27 highway driving depending on how hilly it is.

I average between 18.4-18.8 MPG since I drove it off the lot according to Trip 1. ~20 miles of my 26 mile one-way commute is highway and in general. Done a few road trips. Before I went to the drag strip for a few runs for the first time ever in my life, Trip 1 said my MPG was 19.4. It has been SLOWLY recovering back, but I suspect I hit the plateau. On a road trip, straight highway basically, I typically see 23-ish. Note: my typical driving style (considering I'm commuting) is conservative with the occasional smashing of the throttle in tunnels if I'm feeling enraged at traffic.

No offense to those who say it, but ignore those statements. Everyone has their own budget and their own needs. It doesn't mean a person can't afford something or shouldn't buy it.

To balance it out, V8 does drink more gas.

My GT is a manual with the 3.55 read end, and I've been tracking my mileage. My first tank was 16.4. My best so far has been 23.84, with about half freeway. I am currently averaging hi-17s to low-18s. The mileage you'll get VERY much depends on your right foot. I am starting to love freeway on-ramps! I've never had a car before where I had to slow down to merge! And for some strange reason, my mileage seems to suffer when I am enjoying myself!

16-17MPG seems pretty good. I'm getting 13-14MPG in city driving with mine.
