Has anybody seen anything on S550 convertible as far as prototypes go? I was thinking they would launch at the same time but it doesn't look like any of the prototypes rolling around are convertibles. Not that it would be easy to tell with the tent and awning sponsored camo the prototypes wear around town.

As far as we know, this car is being designed as a coupe first. So they need to nail down the coupe before they chop the roof off and add a bunch of weight.

I'm willing to bet you guys that we've already seen the convertible S550--just under heavy camouflage. With all that roof camo we've seen on the mules running around, odds are that some of them are convertibles.

Not only that, but when was the last time that they designed a new model and didn't co-develop a convertible?

I have a feeling the vert will launch at the same time as the coupe.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. If they pull the garbage bag camo in the next few months, we might know more about a vert. The car is too covered up and there are too many false shapes to tell one way or the other. The only ones we know for sure are coupes (and this might be a stretch) are those spotted with the center high mount (CHMSL) at the top of the rear glass.

There are, but not in any of the spy shots. Very difficult to distinguish.

Overall I've got my money set aside for a 2015 GT convertible and want it for next summer. If it's not available I'll be re-evaluating my options. One of those options might just have to be throw in some more cash and step up to a 435 Convertible M sport. Those WILL be available next summer.

All of the prototypes I've seen pictures of have been coupes. I always zoom in to look near the top corner of the window which would show the split where the top meets the windshield header. As for designing a coupe so they can cut the top off, that's not how it's done these days. Structural engineering is all done in the design phase now, unlike the 80's when Convertibles made a comeback by manufactures cutting the tops off if existing coupes and added extra bracing.

Camo was designed to make them undistinguishable.

Well they might be indistinguishable from a glance but the window openings and window seals do not lie. There have been no Vert's that I've personally seen pic's of. All of them have had one piece window seals and solid roofs over the seals. As I've said I always zoom in to check for the break where the convertible top meets the windshield header because I've been looking for evidence of a Vert.

Hate to break it to you but I have it on good word that production of the coupe will start in July 2014 and the vert has been delayed until Sept 2014. SVT's will start at the end of 2014/early 2015 if all goes according to plan.

I have a feeling once you see the coupe you will be happy to wait the extra months to pick up the vert.

Well that pretty much wrecks my day. July and September production are not things I was hoping to hear.

A respected dealer on another site has also indicated production starting in July 2014........
