I have the same problem with mine, and it just gets worse over time if you don't stay on top of it. I have not found an easy solution that gets them back to looking new, but came across this video in my research. This is a bit too labor intensive for the limited amount of free time I have, but it looks like it works.

I saw that video a while back. He keeps his cleaning solution a secret

If it really starts to bother you then I'll trade you my car straight up. Problem solved. I'll be in Nashville in 2 weeks. We can iron out the details then. Ok great!
It sounds like a plan. Not sure what kind of plan, but a plan. :D

Ain't nobody got that kind of time.;) I think I am going to try and take a wire brush to the brakes and see how much of the built up rust I can knock off. Try to mitigate it a bit.

What's everyone's opinion on tracking a tire that's been patched? I'm getting a new tire, but I am curious what the general opinion is.

The easiest way to combat this is to wash the car, then go around individually and clean each wheel, I spray the wheel down, spray the cleaner. Agitate as needed and hose off.. Spray the disc down with hydes rust serum while the disc is still wet. I then take my leaf blower and blow the disc and wheel dry.. it worked fine on my R using griots cleaner which is very mild and not what I usually use. I then drive the car around the block to get any residual rust and water off the rotors. I'll come back and hit with leaf blower and then quick detail off any water spots. I didn't use the serum this time but I typically do. It doesn't stop the rusing but greatly reduces it. It's best to try to keep the discs as dry as possible when washing the car to keep them from having more time to rust.

Most HPDE organizations make you sign a tech sheet that states that your tires do not contain any patches or plugs.

You'll risk hitting the wheels, so I'd skip that idea. Best thing to do is drive the car. It's def a pain in the ass but here's my typical method.

Wash car, use sonax on wheels.
Dry car, dry wheels with compressed air
Drive car to knock off rust/dry rotors
Use compressed air to knock off any dirt that might have kicked up on the wheels and then quick detail the now thin layer of rust dust that came from your quick drive.

I dry with a leaf blower and drive around the block to dry the brakes. The real cussing starts when you get up to speed and the freaking mirrors start weeping and streaking the sides of the car. Doesn't matter how much I blow them it still happens.

That's a good process. My driveway is long enough I could just drive up and back and be good. I recently got a CR Spotless. Game changer in terms of dealing with water spots. Highly recommend if you don't have one. Don't know why I waited so long to get one

I would only do that with the wheels off. Thinking of doing it one time every so 6 months or so. I think getting a lot of that off will help

I think you'll find that it rusts the very next time you wash the car. Sorry ;(

Well I did the Sonax wash rinse drive. The good news Ian that Sonax does a pretty awesome job at eating the rust stains away. The bad news is that the brake is so rusty it just oozes out and stains the wheel again. Other good news is that it's only one wheel. Dealers working on replacing the disc. We shall see. So far Ford hasn't pushed back on anything including possibly replacing the wheel. I'm not holding my breath on that one...so they're saying there's a chance

I'm not sure how you are expecting iron rotors that are not coated not to rust? lol Ford isn't gonna warranty out either item. Or at least they shouldn't.

I'm obviously not explaining this right to you guys.

I'm not expecting an iron rotor not to rust, but I'm also not expecting a brand new rotor to be delivered caked in rust so badly that it oozes out and stains the wheel each time I wash the car regardless of how many steps I take. If you have the same issues as this one does then you are way more forgiving and willing to do a ton more steps to deal with and or ignore it. No other car I own has this issue and they all have uncoated rotors.

My first GT350 didn't have any such issue, and the rotors are the same on the R are they not?

As far as the warranty, I think you'd be surprised at what Ford will do when you have a good dealer to communicate the problem accurately to the right person.
