I agree it will be an SC motor.

The quote below was posted back in 08/14 by a regional Shelby director:

"We took a tour of Watson Racing last week on a trip to Dearborn...

I notice a few of you have mentioned the Trinity. The bombshell of the trip came when I heard the Romeo engine plant was closed off to tours because the plant was working on Voodoo and a NEW big block to replace the 5.8 -and said as if that information was just common knowledge."

I've heard rumors, and I usually don't throw much weight into their content. But this would make sense if Ford does decide to throw a Mach 1 or Boss 429 at the Hellcat."

My main question is what will the CID be?

Thought/wish here is that an all-new 427 would sure be a nice salute to Carroll Shelby and his original GT500. Plus, why should Chevy guys with their LS7's have all the fun?!

:ford:

Well the original GT500 was a 428...not a 427 :)

The side-oiler 427 was originally going to be an option for the 67/68 Mustang but was dropped prior to production start.

Unless Ford is throwing a ton of money at a whole new full scale production line...it'll be Coyote block. The "Trinity" was the 5.4 block taken to it's maximum limits..and the 5.4 family is done.

If I had to guess..it'll be a CPC 5.2 of some kind..

I meant the GT500 427 Super Snake. :)

Never saw that the 427 was scheduled for the '67 Mustang...just the '68.

The source I quoted said new big block...time will tell.

Is it possible that was misheard? Perhaps it was "the plant was working on Voodoo, a new big block to replace the 5.8"

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a new V8 produced, but it makes more sense to build on either the 5.0 or 5.2 for GT500. Besides, if there was an all new V8 coming, you'd expect Ford to follow current industry trends and build a smaller capacity (4.0?) and add twin turbos in the vee......

Good old Ford though, they'll keep us guessing for a few years yet :ford:

I seriously doubt it'll be a "big block" There hasn't been a "big block" Ford since the 460 went away..

Now "big bore"? Sure..technically the 5.2 block is a "big bore" Coyote.

If it's based on the Coyote, it's going to be a maximum of 5.3L...no real way around it. And it likely wouldn't be 5.3L because that's going to make super thin cylinder walls..not too amazing for boost. An 11.1 CPC 5.2 with either a blower or twin turbos is the most likely candidate since it uses existing equipment. The 5.8 Trinity was the final evolution of the 5.4 Condor..it wasn't an entirely new family. The 5.2L is the logical starting point for a GT500 motor..just not in FPC form.

If it's a whole new block..then Ford is throwing buckets and buckets of cash at it..because it's going to require all new assembly and manufacturing equipment to accommodate new bore centers.

Yes, definitions of what a 'big block' is certainly varies nowadays depending on who you're talking to. :)

If what the source said comes to pass, logically it would seem the Super Duty's would get a new gas V8 as well.

I've checked other postings by him and they've been dead on. :)

He quoted his post verbatim in 12/14 and then added...

"Just sayin-you heard it here pretty early."

That's one way they could make it affordable to produce a new, larger displacement V8..if the Super Duty series bore the brunt of the cost.

Just because I'm a heritage fanboy...

I'd love to see a new 351 (aka 5.8) block. You could easily design it to accommodate a SOHC (truck) and DOHC (performance) head setup.

Also, coincidentally, the base engine for the 69/70 Mach 1 was a 351

Both pics posted by C&D, who speculated on the cars' being GT500 prototypes. I believe MT did as well.

I think this was the only time those prototypes with the lumpyhumpy hoods were spotted......I think there were 3 or 4 photos from that set. This was at the same time as when GT350 prototypes were in camo........and then they were never seen again........

I wonder if those are supercharged GT350's??  I would love that!
I know Lethal Performance is saying that the hood is very close to the supercharger sitting on the manifold.

I still think Ford will update the 6.2 liter truck block by casting it in aluminum and put it in a Mustang. A 6.2 liter SOHC engine should fit better in a Mustang :hail:because it would be less wide than 5.0 DOHC engine.

Gut guess / all desire and no fact:

A TT 5.0 would be the easy way out for Ford, far as a GT500 class replacement goes.

I'm hoping they do that in the rumored upcoming Mach I car and blow everybody's mind with a killer 'new' engine when they get around to the GT500 class replacement.

All I know is that I'm budgeting for that car (provided Ford does something with that goofy a$$ rear end styling)
