I've had problems with Fram filters because the filter elements are weak and have collapsed on me due to high oil pressure. That was probably 15 years ago but from what I have read more recently they still have not improved much and use cardboard endcaps and have the smallest filter media surface on the market. If I can find it there was a really intense filter study done for GM trucks.

Ohh found it..

I'm a Commercial Sales Manager, and I have five accounts that purchase Fram filters for their oil changes.
Six years and I've never had one problem from any of these accounts that use them. I personally use Motorcraft.

Seeing as the Fram XG came in #3 in those tests and really close to the other 2 makes me feel good about it, I ordered a royal purple filter for the next change as well as a filter cutting tool. I'll look into the farm next change and post pics of my findings.

Fram has been bad for ages but looks like they made up a bunch of new filters the last few years (I guess trying to get better products out) but don't know if any ones tested them to see how good they are.

There was at least a small rash of them plugging piston oil squirters up with filter material in dodge pickups with the cummins diesel, years ago. I don't know how widespread of a problem it really was since stuff tends to get amplified on forums, but it was enough to get me to steer clear of them. No other brand was known for that sort of trouble with those engines at the time.

The NOACK value of an oil is the rate of evaporation when an oil gets hot (to put it simply). In theory, if you switch from an oil with a high NOACK to a low NOACK, you should see a difference in your catch can.
Choosing an oil is a nightmare. Info on oil is imposible to find. I know for example redline 5w30 has a noack of 6%, super low, but have no idea on its calcium content or zinc. And you cant exactly google "lowest noack, lowest calcium, highest zinc synthetic 5w30"

Agreed. I used Redline for my last oil change a few weeks back because of the great things I've read about it, but since then I've seen a few oil analysis tests and it looks like Redline has a high calcium content. Not too happy about that. Now I don't know what I'll be using for the next change. :(

I'm switching to Royal Purple HPS for my next change. Fortified with zinc and phosphorus, and high levels of molybdenum which are all shown to significantly reduce the incidence of LSPI. I will also be switching to 10w40 for extra protection during the summer

Ive seen it but i cabt believe it to be true. Paid for by amsoil doesnt inspire confidence
I agree, a test paid for and conducted for Amsoil seems as impartial as all the Camaro vs Mustang articles I read on Motor trend after getting through the 10+ pages of GM adds.

Funny how thier love of everything GM is directly proportional to the number of full page adds it runs.

Ok elaborate. Why 10w40? Its summer year round here. Im within 40 minutes of a beach no matter where i go and temps are always above 89 during the day and 80 during nights

I miss that about the Island, But I do get to make up for it with long stretches of unlimited Autobahn!, You've probably seen my videos, I do 100 mph (160 kph) daily, 200 kph (125 mph) as often as possible, 240kph (150mph) problably once a week. and have hit 290 (176) on a run, this is hard for the oil and I am usually close to the yellow on the really high speed runs.

Adam recommends Rotella T-6 which is a 40w, his word would be enough for me really, but Vargas recommends a 40 weight on their Turbos as well,

http://performance.vargasturbo.com/mustang-ecoboost/

Lastly this document from Vargas' Website is for Evos but I think is valid for all turbo applications and Is a good read.
