Hi Forum.

2016 GTPP with a Roush P2 kit, catless headers and LUND tuned. 80k miles, MT82 car.

The motor needs new cams, the originals are worn. So, if im doing it 'anyway' , why not aftermarket :)

Any personal recommendations out there? Its a DD, so no need to go absolutely wild.

I heard Comp Cams satge 2 or 3 can be good. MMR make SC Cams, but dont publish any details about them :(

I will be locking the phasers on advice of my tuning shop.

Basically, looking for personal experience. Thanks a lot :)

Your cams are 'worn' but the rest of the engine is fine?

Lund will tell you stock cams…

just answering the question but you may have bigger problems if cams are worn…

Are the lobes or the journals worn?

If you don’t already have a 103 tb and enlarged inlet housing then there’s not much point. Those changes will net more power than cams and will limit any gains cams might add.

No way I would upgrade cams in that setup. There are more and better ways to get more power.

Thanks for the inputs...

When the SC was installed approx 2 yrs 15k miles ago, the shop warned me my cams were showing signs of wear. A pic is attached.

This was flagged as a to-do item for 'future attention'.

Two years later and I think its time. I live in Europe and the shop isnt local, I send my car away once per year for big maintenance and upgrades like this.

The car runs and drives perfectly, no issues at all, and it makes good power for a 93 tune.

Right now it has the std. Roush P2 (smaller pulley), BAP, & TB. I run de-cat LTs and its LUND tuned. Made a conservative 625WHP. Car is a DD and it runs sweet. I dont want to ruin that.

My only line of thought was if they are going to do the work anyway, why not upgrade and maybe gain a bit of HP.

Opinions on cams seem to really split the crowd down the middle.

PS. Does anyone know what a set of OEM cams from Ford runs?

I'd be more focused on resolving why the lobes are wearing.

As others pointed out, aftermarket cams may not really net anything and may make whatever problems you're seeing worse.

I get your idea, if youre going to have to replace them anyway, why not spend money on better stuff. I'd try to source OEM replacements if you're not upgrading the rest of the rotating components (springs, retainers, etc).

Did you get debris in the heads or something? Have you been looking at your oil to check for debris or metal components? Sometimes the little keepers come off.

Stock cams can make 1800 HP no problem.
And they are only about 100 USD a piece (probably a bit more expensive today),
As the others alluded to for this mileage cams should not have any appreciable defects from wear.
