Hey guys,

A few days ago I noticed a rotten suffer like smell whenever I would floor it. Goes away pretty quickly after and isn't present during normal driving. Is this something to be concerned with?

You cats will stink when they are over loaded with fuel. It is normal. You can smell this when going up a steep hill in traffic many times as all of the cars are under load.

If it's a sulphur smell you're buying cheap gas. Maybe try a different brand.

A rotten smell, like eggs or sulphur usually indicates a problem with a clogged CAT. The smell is there because the exhaust gases are not being converted fully. Could also be a fuel sensor / filter issue. It certainly isn't something I'd say is normal.

What do you think the best course of action would be? I've taken my car to Ford for issues before and unless the car is visibly on fire they tell me it's fine.

Sounds like most dealers I've encountered as well. 😂

Well if it is a clogged cat you'd be down on power, possibly get a CEL, have terrible fuel economy (more so than normal with a V8 lol) and perhaps trouble starting the car. Things will just eventually become worse. You could check the temperature at the start of the cat and then at the exit of the cat. Rear of the cat should be hotter than the front. If the front is the same or hotter then it needs replacing. Could also perhaps tap the catalytic converter with a rubber mallet and see if it rattles.

I'm reading several references cats can be warrantied for up to 8YR/80,000M.

Even if the dealer is busy or seems unconcerned, seems reasonable to have an appointment, document everything and ask for checks specifically related to fuel systems, cats, electronic codes, etc.

Thanks man, been thinking about just doing a cat delete and end the problem for good.

Yeah I saw that as well, my only concern is that I have a Catback exhaust and a tune so I'm sure they would find a way to void it.

I'm in Canada and here Top Tier only means how much detergent is in the fuel, not the quality of the gas itself. The Costco near me sells Top Tier gas and the smell inside my garage is unbareable after I move the car inside. Any other name brand gas does not have the same smell. So I stay away from Costco.

Anybody else in the car with you, maybe unaccustomed to the Mustang’s hard acceleration?

Then the egg smell will be replaced by exhaust gas smell. And that will be all the time. Not just when getting on it.
