I'm new to the auto scene, all my 5.0's have been manual except my current. Is is possible to start a roll race with paddles in sport mode and then after you start, give back shift control to the car with out taking it out of sport and putting it back in?

yes you can, but be careful. you can miss a shift in the auto if you are too aggressive. it will shift into neutral on you. ask me how i know :eyebulge:

oh you mean leave it in sport mode. no, not that im aware of.

What I do is pull the shifter back to S and gear down with the paddle shifters to your desired gear. Once you stab the gas bump it to D and let the car do the rest. One thing to remember is don't get to excited and bump it fast because it will skip D and go to neutral. Don't ask me how I know. Lol

What I do is shift into the gear of my choosing with the shifter in sport mode..... once I mash the pedal I slide the shifter into drive and let it shift on its own....

Yup - the method mentioned above by multiple people is exactly what you do.

It works like a charm. ;)

yeah i've put it in neutral before too. that's how I do it as well lol. Was wondering if there was a better way, guess not lol! Does D vs S change how the power is delivered in any way?

I must be the only one that puts it in track mode on D and let the computer do the rest?

Roll racing he wants to already be in a lower gear, rather than wait on the computer to downshift.

You can leave it in drive and use The paddle on the steering wheel to downshift to desired gear and just Hammer the pedal to the floor and the computer will take over. No need to put it in sport and worry about hitting neutral when going back to drive

Best way to bust a 6R80 is leave it in drive and punch it ...The fast kick down on the trans is what will bust the intermediate shaft .. Best way to do it is what has been said over and over in the above posts ..

no need to shift into S. you can still use the paddles in D but the computer will take over after about 3 seconds.
Leave it in D, put it in Sport or Track. Downshift right before you take off.
simple.

That's not the way to provide the best take offs from a roll.
