Reverse gear

Help! Anyone have any problems getting the car in the revers gear? Just drove it home from the dealership and discovered that I can't get the car in reverse. Is there something special that you need to do to get the car in reverse gear?

Underneath the shift knob, there is a lock out ring that you need to lift up on in order to get the lever over into reverse. Pull up on that lock out ring and you should be able to go all the way to the left and then up for reverse.

Too funny!! Have not had a mustang since 2011 and did not realize how things have changed. What an amazing car! The engine..exhaust ...brakes...it is the total package ...ford is killing it and can only imagine what the gt500 is going to bring!!

I would love to give you grief over this, but coming from a 2011 I tried repeatedly to push down.... But, to no avail. The GT350 is a breeze to put in reverse once you figure it out.

Get an MGW shifter and you can push down again

Happened to a lot of us, or at least me too. Bought mine in August, drove it home from San Antonio to SF CA. 30 miles out of town and I pulled over, only to realize I had no idea how to reverse. Let's see... push down, then left & up? Nope. Push hard all the way left and up? Nope. Pull up (not realizing there's a ring to latch onto)? Nope. Finally googled away my shame.

Throw away that shifter and get an [MENTION=10681]MGW[/MENTION] shifter and your problems are solved and vastly improved!!!

Same thing happened to me last year when I bought a manual Cruze for my son. About 6 months after purchased I need to move it due to him not being home and my garage was blocked. I sat there for 5 minutes trying to figure out why I could not find reverse. I had to call him. Pretty bad when I've been driving sticks since 94 and I had to ask my 18 year old son how to get into reverse.

Agreed have been able to drive a stick since 1981....dump trucks ...pickups and muscle cars ...so was lost when I could not get the car in reverse. Thanks for the help and input forum members ...cars are getting to smart or I am to used to the baskc h pattern
