So the place i purchased my new tunes from emailed me this morning & said the strategy code i gave them is not supported & it looks like the car is already tuned. Which obviously it is idk if i was supposed to add that in the msg section when i purchased the tune or not? But he asked me if i can return it to stock & then send him the strategy code. I cannot do that since i dont have the original tuning device. I emailed him back & told him what is going on but have not heard back Is there anyway to know if the previous tuner locked the ecu? My next step is to make an appointment at the dealer to flash it back to stock but i dont want to loose more time if they find that the ecu is locked & cant flash it back to stock. Id rather just order a new ecu asap?

The dealer can refresh back to stock , it might run like shit or not at all . But you will have the stock calibration files .

This...I think I said earlier the car will have to be returned to stock before you get a new tune. Thats why I asked if you can get a hold of the seller and get his tuning device.

Thank u guys for the help! So are u guys saying that the dealer can flash it back to stock even if whoever tuned it locked the ecu/pcm? Is there anyway to tell if the ecu is locked? I just dont want to wait for a week or two for an appointment at the dealer just to find out its locked. Also from previous experience with the dealers around me chances are they will tell me they dont have anyway to flash it back to stock!

I have a Lund tune , which Lund locks there tunes . When I plug in an IDS , factory diagnostic software , if doese not recognize the calibration it will flash it to the latest calibration for that VIN .

Ok so sct was able to send me a recovery file & i was able to flash my car back to stock. I was then able to give the tuner my strategy code & got a couple of my tunes! But now im having some new issues. First off one of the tunes is an e85 tune & my afr gauge on the dash is showing 11.2ish at idle & cruising which is way lean compared to what it was so im afraid to even try to got wot to see what it would read. I contacted the tuner but they have not got back to me yet. Also my fuel system monitor will not switch to ready & im wondering if that might be from the e85 tune or my mods? One more thing i have seen a couple mentions of emissions tunes while reading some other posts? Is that a thing & where would be the best place to find one? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

Fuel system monitor is a little tricky. Keep the speed between 50-60mph, with a steady throttle and very little throttle input. I did this by driving Kate at night on the freeway. Here is a brief read.

Thank u dave2013m3 i was actually able to get the monitors all set to ready so i should be good! But the flex fuel tune i got which i actually didnt know it was a flex tune but the air/fuel gauge on the dash is showing alot more lean then it was with my old tune? What is too lean on these cars when running full e85? Mine used to run at 9.8 idle&cruising & 8.5ish at wot & now its at 11.2 idle & cruising & i have been afraid to go wot since its a bit more lean? Does the gauge on the dash automatically adjust for the fuel im using?

So my smog issues have gotten much worse! I took the car to my smog guy & as soon as he hooked it up the computer it said must see referee! So im guessing it must have had a "hot" smog in the past or smthen? But anyways i have the gt350 im, gt350 tb, & i just ordered the gt350 airbox, so i will have a ford performance pack 3 which is smog legal. My only question is does anyone know if i will need the procal tune or whatever it is or is ther anyway for me to get that tune without purchasing a performance pack setup? The tune i have now i would think should work all my monitors are "ready" & i dont have any cel's but obviously the smog referee is gonna check everything im sure & im hoping that since the ford performance pack is California smog legal i should be good? I also had some stickers made with the ford performance pack c.a.r.b. & eo numbers on them to put on the car. If anyone on here lives in California & has the ford performance pack 3 has anyone had any issues passing smog? Thanks in advance for any help!

You basically are going to have to do what I said a few weeks ago. I would return the car to stock as far as the stock tune. Purchase the Ford Performance Pack 3 kit with the ProCal. Just install the software from the ProCal tune. Sell the unused items from the new PP3 kit to recoup some of the cost. You are going to need that ProCal tune with the CARB EO#. My E92 M3 had all its readiness codes all green and I still couldn't pass with the tune on the car. I had to put the stock tune back in, I already put the cats back on (it had test pipes). The AFE CAI already had a CARB EO#. You already have the other E85 tune, once you pass switch out the tune. You can then return the car back to the PP3 tune when you have to smog.

You can get the kit for around $1750.

Are u saying that even though the performance pack is smog legal that it wont pass smog with the tune? I had my car flashed back to stock already & have the stock tune but my car runs like crap on the stock tune with the gt350 im & tb? If your saying it wont pass with the procal tune for the performance pack then there isn't really any reason for me to purchase another performance pack? If it will pass but only with the procal tune is the only possible way to get that tune is to buy the kit?

It will pass with the Ford Performance ProCal tune. As the whole package has a CARB EO#.

You can reach out to Ford Performance but without the ProCal I don't know what they can do.

And just a nickels worth of free advice. The SMOG Referees in California are generally very well trained. Sure like any job you’ll run into the occasional moron, but for the most part, these guys know what they’re doing.

They see dozens of cars every week. They have reference material from the manufacturer and they’re generally familiar with common models. (Mustang falls in this category.)

So don’t try and sneak anything by them. Like @Dave2013M3 said, the CARB legal set up is the way to go. Make sure you keep the stickers with the EO numbers, and any documents that come with it.

If you show up with a legal car, they may ask a few questions about why it failed previously, but they’ll sign you off and you’ll be on your way ready to reg, easy peasy.

Pull some crap or show up with an illegal car and they’ll flag the VIN and every Registration/Smog cycle after that will require a trip to the referee. (Makes the car harder to flip down the road, and if you keep it, becomes A pain in your butt.)
