Resale value, what happened???

Wrangler and FJ are always at the top of the resale value lists...the other vehicles in the top ten vary from year to year.

Which is odd, because Jeep, generally speaking, is not a reliable brand. But there is this whole culture with the wranglers that make them so popular and have high resale value.

Toyota's on the other hand are obviously top-notch in quality and reliability. I Have a good friend who previously had a loaded Cherokee 4x4 with the hemi, and although it was a really nice truck he had nothing but problems and absolutely hated that thing. It was his first and last Jeep.

He got rid of it and got an FJ Cruiser which he's had for like 6-7 years and he loves it. No problems at all and it's a cool & unique truck. It's by far the longest he's even owned a vehicle. Can't even recall all the cars & trucks he's had but it's a LOT. He used to have a different one every year or two. And he has plenty of money to buy whatever he wants, so it says a lot about that FJ.

and they're Chrysler's and fall apart. I used to have to visit a chrysler dealer every day and it was always wranglers over everything else in the shop. That was before the fiat buying in though and before some QC fixes

They are cool but I'd take an FJ, Tacoma, or 4runner over a Jeep any day. Unfortunately, everyone I've ever knows who's had a jeep has had a lot of problems with it, both Cherokee's and wranglers. It's a shame, really, because I'd rather own a Jeep otherwise.

As a side note, it was really funny the one time my cousin who had a modded up wrangler that he bragged about was mocking my brother who had a stock Honda Passport about getting up this hill to where our campsite was. My brother went right up no problem. My cousin wound up tipped over against a tree. lol.

So, I just went to KBB.com and entered info for a 7 year old Mustang GT Premium Coupe with manual trans and popular options. I drive 7K miles per year, so I put in 49K miles. Trade in value for very good condition is $13K-$14K. Your $8K figure is WAY off.

Fords have some of the highest resale values on the market. Check the ALG sometime if you don't believe me. The ALG is the lease guide for banks that lists residual values for cars to set lease terms.

A Wrangler is the only Chrysler product I've really ever had the desire to own (I've had four) and they are a crude POS compared to most anything out there in the price range - build quality of a $20K Kia for the price of a higher-end Ford. On the flip side, they are still built simply and are easily maintained.

I love mine, but if Ford ever comes out with a proper Bronco to compete I'll jump ship in a heartbeat.

Since 07, I've had a 4dr Sahara (lease) and 2 4dr Rubi's. No issues what so ever with any of them. I've pulled trailers with them, put them through the difficult rated local trails, and beat on them daily with no issues. The fiat motor and new transmission were great upgrades but the old chrysler stuff is what was on my 09 rubi that went up every trail I ever tried without breaking. All it had was a 2" budget lift, 1-1/4" wheel spacers, and 35x12.50 tires on the stock wheels.

There is no other vehicle like them. FJ's are nice but I rode with a modded one that wouldn't try lines that I cruised through. The FJ doors and top are also stuck in place. Whats fun about that. As soon as the stang is paid off, I'll probably get another rubicon.

Are you guys all looking at resale as original MSRP vs what its worth today or what YOU paid vs what its worth today?

My cars sticker was a little over 38k but I didn't pay that so when you run the numbers at about 35k it gets better. The way I see it is that immediate depreciation is what I saved off sticker. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, if your looking at resale already you shouldn't have bought this car.

Idk how you guys are getting these bad depreciation rates. I just priced my car on KBB with exact options and mileage. Private party value is 31k, dealer retail is 32k-34k. I paid 33500 (Xplan) out the door in May. I think where most of you guys are getting killed is the premium options, its not helping the resale much at all. My GT base PP with recaros and parking sensors books out 500$ less than a GT PP Premium.

Mustang resale value always have been low. You have to keep the car at least for 3 years and drive the hack out of it. Camaro on the other hand won couple of best performance car resale value awards and has a better resale value.

It is really hard to see your own money go away like that. I had a 2012 2ss/rs camaro and was able to traded in for 27 grand for the new mustang. Back in 2011 i paid $36,300 for it. I was happy with the trade in value.

I have to agree with this.I also traded a '12 SS for my GT.I kept in better than new shape and 10k miles. I paid $7300 for my GT that is twice the car the Camaro was. It is a better car in every way.

I just checked KBB and the trade/resale values are unbelievable, especially for my specially ordered veh. MSRP on my car was 43360 in march 2015. KBB private sell is 34k & trade is 29k...wtf!! 10k drop in 8 months. This is very concerning for me. Gee, I will have to keep her based on those numbers. I have 10k on the car & it is loaded with the gtpp, ruby red ext. With redline interior/door inserts. Beautiful car!!! Dealer offered me 32k. Any of you have checked out your vehicle's values lately? You will be surprised/disappointed.:tsk:

Did you pay 43k? I can't even configure a '16 for that price without going vert or full load. These cars are easily bought at invoice minus incentives (or 500 below invoice right now), making the '43k' more like 37-38. So you've lost more like 4k, and considering the 2015 is one model year old now that sounds appropriate. If you don't like depreciation, buy used, or get on a waiting list for something limited and keep it in the garage :headbonk:. This is not at all a situation unique to your make or model of car.

It's a Ford. They drop in value like a rock. Wait 6-7 years and your car will be worth around 8 grand. Rule # 1 never buy a new car if you are worried about losing money. It's the worst purchase you can make. Rule #2 Never buy a Ford because it's one of the worst brands to depreciate.

Or... buy a 3-4 year old Ford and drive it into the ground, laughing at the guy who paid sticker to feed his vanity :lol:. This car is already such a great value new, it astounds me what the General Forums comes up with to discuss.

A 2015 loaded coupe with 10k miles on it, manual... trade in value is between 28k-32k. This car sticker right at 44k. WOW!

You'll always lose a ton buying one loaded. You can get a base GT for 30-31k out the door now. Resale won't drop 10k on that for a loooong time. Probably a few thousand over 3 years.
