I'm not "not getting it" lol. I understand exactly what you're saying, and I don't disagree with you. Disregarding the msrp and using what I paid produces a similar comparison.

Paid 33k for the RAM -- drove two years and 33k miles and got 29k for it.
Paid 38k for the mustang -- have driven for 6 months and 5600 miles and valued at 32-33k.

Losing 4k in 2 years and 33k miles is nothing to get upset about. Losing 6k in 6 months and 5600 miles and I can see where some members are mildly distraught. I'm only making a simple comparison, not disputing the laws of physics here. It's not exactly law I'm just demonstrating a point the mustang has a steep depreciation trajectory. That said, I'm not whining about and would have bought it over again.
Insurance companies, especially the better ones like State Farm, are really generous on what they pay out. Often, they don't want to haggle with the owner so they just look up retail values for a similar car with similar miles and pay that amount. Your Ins co paid you far more than what a dealer would have given you on trade.

It's typical car sales - even my fairly straight forward deal and no-haggle was frustrating because they were moving _so_slow_ (and for a customer with a decent amount of cash). I think there was some $300 doc fee, they did the tag, I think it would've been cheaper locally, nothing major, generally very happy, and it was the exact car, I wanted so no compromise on anything (as far the actual vehicle goes).

I don't, I'm DT over there (and in real life :)), I had a pretty nicely setup C5 Z06, yellow, had a BP hood, Spectre Werks rear fascia, some nice Caravaggio seats with the rear shells painted matching yellow, a number of different wheels (iForged, CCW).

I love the C6 Z06. It's probably my favorite modern Vette, and I prefer the exterior styling over the C7 - though I realize the new car has a much better interior, features, etc. The LS7 is an intake/tune away from 550, and cam/headers away from 650HP.

My high level short list for wants for the next car were simple:

- Convertible
- Seats 4 (well, 3)
- Fun

For me, fun = solid performance, probably a manual and the "performance" variant, a great exhaust note.

Not a ton of options: Mustang, Camaro - then some German options, Audi or BMW. I briefly cross shopped a 2013-ish M3 convertible, the Mustang is way more fun for about $10K less (and 3 years newer), though the hardtop is neat. No interest in Audi, and the newer BMWs like the M4 cab pushes $75-80K.

I had a number of 2-seaters back to back and I never get to drive since I work from home, so this will be awesome for us to cruise in, with the PP and a manual it should be a hoot to drive, and of course the roof is optional :D
Very cool, I also had a nice C5 Z06. it was black and mint. Minimal appearance mods (Blacked out taillights, exhaust plate, lowered, chrome speedlines) but it had H/C/I & full exhaust. & Vette Doctors tuned. Sold it with 44k on the clock for a steal of a price to sort-of give back to the forum, since I also bought it for a steal from a guy on the forum. Bought it from a great guy and sold it to another great guy.

Mustang is definitely more practical, and brand new is certainly better then 6-9 years old, but those C6Z's surely are tempting! Unfortunately a lot of fellas there are being kinda greedy with their asking prices...even with winter approaching.

This was my Z06 (sorry if it's too OT):
Very nice Z, I think they look really good in yellow. My friend (who I got into z's many years ago) also has a yellow C5Z (2004) and he has been racing it for years and is now an instructor. He loves the car and loves racing even more!

Ford also just announced a new friends and neighbors deal starting in Nov. I bet the dealers already have that pricing available to them. I also bet that Ford will do the 0% again.

The volume dealers in big metro areas have the best deals. Some of these promotions are based on total unit sales for the month or qtr and they get huge incentives for meeting certain goals. Here is the pricing from one of the more aggressive dealers in ATL.

Not bad, but still not the level of discount that MD dealer is giving.

I thought so too until I read the fine print:

"All new vehicle prices exclude freight. Tax, tags, and processing fee of $300 in Maryland additional."

I think not including the $900 delivery charge applied on the sticker of every car is deceptive.

Dealer fees vary by state, but adding $1,200 to every advertised price on their site makes their pricing not that great, if you need to travel to get there.

It is still very good pricing. 37,400 was out of door price for ruby red 16 GT premium with nav, pp, 401A package and parking sensors. Msrp was 43,000. So that's 6k under msrp out the door.

To the OP: This must be your first experience with American muscle car value drop- right? These things go down in value like panties on prom night. I've been experiencing this for the last 35 years, and it never changes. Like another poster said: Over about 10 years it will drop, then it will eventually level off, around 5 to 7 grand, then sit there for about 10 years, then SLOWLY start to go back up. If you can't afford the freight........

It's not just American muscle. There are other cars that are even worse, like luxury cars (except maybe Lexus). I'd say American muscle cars are about an avg. drop.

Agreed. I was shocked when they gave me my initial offer, it was way more than I had even hoped to haggle for. Of course I still told them no a few times. :)

And I feel dumber after viewing your graph. Maybe you (And Anthony@HTH) don't know what alphabet soup is? Or maybe your sense of humor is a bit lacking? You one of those guys who watches comedies and sits there smug faced the whole time?

Anyhow, it's a popular joke/forum comment where you fill in the last part with whatever, that many have considered one the best comebacks ever. (Google it and see)

But, hey to each their own. :D

Nope its the same for lexus as well! KBB is on fire. They don't even include extended warranties and other things in their estimates.
