Specifically, the dealer can re-flash the car back to stock no matter who has tuned it.
You are wrong here. Lund does scramble the addresses in the PCM requiring a key code to access it.

Like I said, 2 options, new PCM or Lund tuning device and Lund's stock file. Last I remember he was charging $150 for the stock tune and unlock. Plus the cost of tuning device.

Probably cheaper to buy a new PCM.

That piece of info was from PBD. I asked when seeing if they'd be able to get him new tuning. He may want to see if another dealer has the same issue.

Lund's scrambling is pretty well documented on HP's web forum.

Lund has a disclaimer on his website saying you need to get an access code from Lund to scan using the RTD device, when using a Lund tune.

I had a similar issue with with misfire codes . long story short I had a local perfromance shop that couldn't use the ford ids system because of my tune so they reloaded my stock tune, created a basic tune based on some of my mods where they could run the ids system then they found my issue with the car.

First thing I'd do is contact lund, give them the vin and find out if it is tuned by them. If so you have 2 options.

If not then it may be saveable by another tuner.

I’m no tuning genius. But wouldn’t it also be wise to figure out what aftermarket parts are on the car that would require a tune in the first place? Loading a totally stock tune might just cause other issues? Just throwing that out there.

Good suggestions all, thank you for the input.

RE: other potential mods - I did this last year with a visual inspection under the car, and didn't notice anything else (besides the obvious Roush CAI that I saw when I first looked at the car). Good point though, and something I'll keep in mind as this evolves or is resolved. Thanks bluebeastsrt.

Jordan, appreciate you calling around, and perhaps we sync-up offline if your schedule allows.

At the moment, the dealer insists the PCM must be replaced, and I'm inclined to go along with it to have any hope of a warranty (for sure, not guaranteed though).

A sincere thank you to all for the suggestions, guidance, and help.

If it has a Roush CAI it may have their kit that also includes their tune. May be worth a phone call to Roush.

You can reflash the car back to stock with an ids and a lund tune. I have a subscription and an ids at my shop. My car was procharged tuned by lund and i lost the ngauge. When i put it back to stock i had no issues.

Maybe check around local independent shops to see if they have an ids. We have a guy that comes out and programs other brand cars we dont have a subscription for.

You state it, and it feels so obvious now, but I sure didn't think of it, ha! I'll see if I can get them early next week. Thank you for the recommendation.

Roush does not lock their tunes.

There are a few tuned by lund cars that lund forgot to scramble.

Probably but it doesn’t matter you can manually enter the calibration based on the teartag. You have to NOT turn the key on when it tells you to. Unless something has changed with the 18 and up it’s common knowledge if you are flashing used ecu’s that the dealership usually don’t touch.

My 2021 A10 with a Whipple has randomly been missing for a few minutes here or there for the last year. I Installed longtubes and drove for a week then it started constantly missing. I Had it at the mechanic who installed it for 6 weeks and he couldn't figure it out.

I finally got frustrated and took it to another shop and they found one of the port injectors would go wide open as soon as the door to the car was opened. They tried to read the tune on the car and the pcm was locked out. It's on the Whipple tune, they don't lock them. They believe the PCM is bad and needs to be replaced. I'm having them check compression and scope the cylinders again to be sure the fluid locked cylinder did not get taken out.

After that it is going to the dealer for a pcm, then back to be retuned for the supercharger and longtubes. I'm at this point 2k in just trying to get it figured out.

Thats why encrypting tunes is a joke. Ford made the tune, Tuner modified that tune from Ford. Customer paid for the tune from tuner. Therefore, its the customers tune to do what they wish.
