Am planning on removing my Powered by Ford covers to paint them, but just wanted to check to make sure the hardware wasn’t holding anything important in place. Any surprises when I remove them? Anything to watch for?

Speaking from my 2015 gt with the gen 2, but it should be basically the same. You will need to remove oil cap and disconnect the 2 pcv breather lines. After that the covers should just pull off. They are just press-clipped in.

Just go slow and make sure that you have the lines off / oil cap so that the cover will be able to fully come off.

Also if you are going to do anything else to your car I recommend buying the service guide (buy 72 hour and download all the docs) or finding a pdf for your car year (I know there is a 2016 gt full service guide available for free on the forum but don't know about 2018+), that way you will be able to have peace of mind knowing you are doing it right without asking every question on the forum.

Good luck.

Thanks.
I’d definitely buy the service guide if getting into anything more involved. This question was more about seeing if there were any tricks to it that others had experienced.

They are a cool little feature. Too bad they just made them out of black plastic.

Interesting those are way different then the 2015-2017 covers that covered the coil packs that said Powered by ford.

I assume tho that they are the same way where you should be able to pull them up, and you probably wont have to take off the brace. Just check to see if they are actually physically apart of the plastic that holds those coolant lines in.

I know a few guys on here had fancied those up a bit. It’s a great Idea, cheapened by the use of nothing but black plastic.

My idea is to paint them silver, and then sand the paint Off the lettering, to turn that black again. Should pop a bit more.

They will come right off, you do not have to remove the strut tower brace. Lift the rubber hoses and tilt them off the studs ands slide forward.

I added some DHG lettering and stripes to the raised areas. I found them on Bemaro. Cheap and easy mod to make those covers stand out.
