Car on jacks, 5 gallon bucket trap and then use poison bait boxes outdoors along the foundation of the building. Field mice bring their own food and are just looking for a warm safe place to be. So if you can kill them before they ever get in it makes it a lot easier. The jacks are hard for the mice to climb, it creates a T shape which is hard for them to traverse without falling.
I never had dryer sheets work for any kind of rodent prevention, even peppermint oil doesn't work. My cat catches some sometimes but most get away. I hate mice so damn much. I used to feel bad because I don't like killing animals, but they're just relentless and they'll destroy everything you own.
