Car on jacks, 5 gallon bucket trap and then use poison bait boxes outdoors along the foundation of the building. Field mice bring their own food and are just looking for a warm safe place to be. So if you can kill them before they ever get in it makes it a lot easier. The jacks are hard for the mice to climb, it creates a T shape which is hard for them to traverse without falling.

I never had dryer sheets work for any kind of rodent prevention, even peppermint oil doesn't work. My cat catches some sometimes but most get away. I hate mice so damn much. I used to feel bad because I don't like killing animals, but they're just relentless and they'll destroy everything you own.

So, I called a professional many years ago when I started hearing noises in the attic. Thought it was something big, but the pro pointed out it was just a bunch of mice. He was extremely cool and taught me the ways of the mouse for free! I've been mouse-free since then. What he taught me...

Lesson #1: Mice nest 30 feet from a food supply. Think both horizontally and vertically. Get rid of the food supply and you get rid of the mice. Until you do this, there is NOTHING that will scare them away for long. They will fight cats, peppermint oil, electric shock (actually seen this on youtube), anything to keep close to that food source. For me, it was my neighbor's bird feeder. Mice will commit suicide for some seeds! Vertically, my attic was 30 feet from her porch. She kindly changed to a bird feeder that doesn't spill seeds and the mice never returned.

Lesson #2: Other mice will follow the urine trails of your mice. This is one of the reasons they keep coming back year after year. This is why it's a good idea to find and eliminate the food source or, at the very least, block their entrances. The entrances can be very small. Think the size of a nickel. It may not be your fault. It's often a neighbor doing something pet-related that's drawing them.

Lesson #3: They can be too small to trigger "humane" traps. Stick to good old snap traps or sticky ones. You can reuse the snap traps and some suggest it because the smell draws them faster. Not that it's a big advantage. Their stomachs cannot be beat for tempting them into your traps.

Lesson #4: Think like a deer hunter. Use gloves when setting up traps. Get in and out of the trap area as quickly as possible. They don't like human scent but will eventually get over it to satisfy their hunger. Speed is important thought. They can reproduce quickly. Kill them quickly! When trying to find their entrances/food sources, think like a mouse. Get on your belly, set up cameras, follow turds, sniff around (they leave a distinctive scent trail when you're dealing with a lot of them). And know they can chew through wood and drywall like it's nothing if they really want to. They are also willing to live in horribly uncomfortable conditions if it means safety/warmth.

Just after I bought my mustang I had a injector wire that became a quick meal for a mouse. I tried rat poison, ultra sonic, traps. nothing seam to work. the rats still found my garage was just too nice or a home to leave. So my mom told me that she used something that seamed to work at our farm house when I was a kid. First of all you will need to have a cat. Then when you clean out the litter box, take some dirty litter and sprinkle it around the corners or all possible openings and around your tires. I have been using this technique for the past 7 years and have not had a mouse issue what so ever. So I will say that this works for me.

Interesting. Because I've personally seen dryer sheets to be 100% effective when storing cars in buildings known to have mice intrusion. You just have to put them everywhere, interior, trunk, and engine bay. As in many.

Bounce brand sheets were the ones that worked for me, off brands not as much. Not sure what the difference was exactly.

Mothballs work too, but your car will reek like them for the better part of a year. Been there.
I use mothballs all around the outside of my car and charcoal odor absorbers all over the interior. Combined with 2 dogs that are in and out of the house 24/7/365 I’m hoping that’s enough.

I had a similar headache with surprise ant trails, and booking pest control services in Boise Idaho made a big difference for me. The quick response and the free re-service guarantee took a lot of stress off, especially during peak season. The pricing was reasonable, and the quarterly plan kept things from popping up again.

The weather was warm yesterday so I decided to see if my car would start. I was worried about the battery being dead, and the mice chewing my wires up and the interior smelling like mouse pee.
The car started right up and it looked like everything was working and the interior still had a new car smell.
Popped the hood and the engine bay still had a little peppermint smell, but it also had a faint smell of mouse piss. I retreated the engine bay with the peppermint spray.
Sure would like to get my garage built.

There sure a pain in the rear, many years ago,I had one of my new cars parked under the car port with a car cover, and they used the under hood for a nesting place , and chewed the fuel injection harness beyond recognition. That was spendy back in 1992 .
Later in the summer we closed in the carport and made it a garage .
(I've posted this in a Thread previously) Just after building the garage , I was telling an older buddies friend about what happened and built a garage, he told me what he does and hasn't had a problem since . I still do to this day , with never having a problem since
The main thing is to leave you hood up with a light on 24/7 , I also have sticky traps from my garage door along both walls . I've done this for 35 years . I hope I just didn't jinx myself talking about it. 🥴
Just wanted to help out .
