Sorry man! I'm really happy that you were able to get his plate number. I hope this all works out for you.

That sucks but I'm glad you got to chase them down enough for info. Make sure you follow up with the PD and your insurance if you haven't. Hopefully the Karma police will visit the asshat soon!

In GA, at least when calling State Patrol, 911 dispatch WILL NOT TALK TO YOU until you confirm that you have pulled over! Even if you say that you're on bluetooth. It is absolutely ridiculous. I have reported ultra-drunk drivers and was basically told "go F yourself" instead of keeping a distance and making sure the police know where the person is. So at least your dispatcher actually gave a flyin' hoot about identifying this a-hole.
I just tell them I am a passenger. Give a fake name, and tell them the driver is you. Then if you have to get involved further, tell them you had picked up a hitchhiker and let them use your phone to call.

Hope it works out for you. My wife got clipped in Plano on surface streets and got the plates of the car. The drive ducked the police for several weeks of attempts to contact and finally (presumably after a repair) answered the door and said "my car has no damage....", and we ended up being out the repair cost (deductible).

I suppose if you were on one of our many tollroads, it'll be harder for this person to deny their presence on said tollroads around that timeframe, since they'd have gone through a number of toll gates before they got off the highway, so hopefully this all works out in your favor.

Same thing happened to me in my 328, slammed from behind at a red light; I followed, he tried to get away. Sparks were flying but no way his old sedan could outrun a BMW, all the time casually telling the 911 operator where we were.

Finally he stopped , bailed out and approached my car, I backed away as two patrol cars slid to a stop and both cops were out with guns drawn , turned out he had warrants and multiple DWIs.

Sentenced to 20 years.

After a few minutes the 911 operator told me to let him go since they already had his plates and asked me if i could just see who the driver is and just stop and wait for officers to file the report...
Hope it gets taken care of and is good as new.

But don't take their word that just calling it in is the best course of action. It might be but it might not.

I had a guy who looked and dressed like the biker in Raising AZ in a van hit my Syclone. I followed him for a long way as he obviously was driving around until I gave up. This was before cell phones. Finally he pulled into a commercial business kind of strip mall where they were all closed and drove to the very back, far from the road. He got out and started swinging a big chain and advancing on me. Not too bright since I can back up faster than he can walk/run, plus I had a .45 if needed. I stayed just out of reach and he actually followed me all the way back to the road before giving up and going back to his van. I blocked the entrance and flagged down a cop. When the van pulled up, the guy got out and started swinging the chain at the lady cop who was threatening to shoot him if he got closer.

Here's why I say calling it in might not be the best route: After backup arrived and he was hauled off, the cops told me I should have just called in the plate when I got home. I asked what would happen then. They said someone would call the phone number for the address the car was registered to. I asked what happens if they don't answer or say they weren't the ones driving. The cops hemmed and hawed and said probably nothing else. So I told them that's why I didn't just call it in.

Even if they find that car that's not good enough you need to be able to place the driver behind the vehicle and be able to identify in order for him to be charged with hit and run. The registered owners defense is gonna be he doesn't know who was driving his car
