I am almost certainly going to get the Recaros when I order my s550 and I was wondering if some members who have 2011-2014 mustangs could comment on their level of comfort. I want to be able to take my car on a long road trip and have my passengers comfortable.

Cool, good to hear. I know they look and perform great, just haven't used them personally :)

I like to sit close to the wheel, the side bolsters are not fun when entering the car.

Do you say that because you are you on the shorter side? I'm 6'1" and I like to be able to have my legs almost straight, maybe it won't apply to me. An annoying entry to the vehicle, as long as the ride is good wouldn't dissuade me. No jumping in through the window though lol!

passengerS? As long as you have more than one passenger the guys in the back are not going to be comfortable in the small space no matter what;)

Ya you're right. I meant different ppl in the front seat at different times. I have a small 2 door with two comfy sports seats in the front and it suits my needs. I just hope the Mustang is as good or better in that regard. Also hopefully the back seats are good enough for 10-20 mile rides for backseat passengers, I mean I want to be able to get across town with people in the back seat even if they are cramped.

The S197 Recaro's are very comfortable. From a road-trip drive standpoint, they support you and keep you planted without wearing out your back.

From a track standpoint, they provide plenty of lumbar support, and you just have an overall feeling that you are planted. I have been in multiple vehicles with the S197 Recaro's, as well as Recaro's racing buckets. I would be lying if I said they felt similar, but the S197 Recaro certainly is a great split between a racing seat/DD seat.

Now, having spent plenty of time in the S550 Recaro's, I can also say that they change very little from the S197 Recaro. This is a good thing.

Go ahead and go to a dealership and just ask to sample a sit in a S197 Recaro, and then expect that from the S550 seat. The styling is slightly different to accommodate the all-new interior but comfort-wise, they are essentially the same.

the only way to find out, is to test it yourself... the seats of modern cars are made to be fitting for 95% of the population, from under 5ft to over 7ft... from underweight to overweight
for everyday use and short trips, it is more or less a question of getting in and out of the car (and the seat) without to much effort...
but on longer trips it is quite a different story
let me give you a few examples
(btw: i am 6ft, 185 lbs and well trained, my wife 5ft 4, 132 lbs and well trained, too)
my wife loved the seats in our lexus v8. a 12 hour roadtrip was a pleasure to her and she felt great after such in long trip in the car, whereas my back startet hurting after 5 or 6 hours in the car.
quite the opposite in our jeep grand cherokee. i could drive all day long without any problem, whereas my wife started complaining after a few hours...
the same with our current bmw z4 35i (with high back luxury seats). it is great for me but not for her. a few years ago we had on opel insignia (the same car is sold in the states as buick regal. the seats in that car were perfect for both of us, no matter how long the trip took.
so if you want to find out for sure, no matter how good or bad the seats are for others, the only thing that matters to you is, does it fit to your individual body.

I love them both for trips and track driving. My wife…..not so much. She is only 5'1" and her head hits the plastic inserts in the seat backs under hard acceleration. Other than that she loves them.

I'm 6'2'' and I've been in a 2014 with the Recaros.

They're firm, supportive, and pretty good as racing seats. As daily beater seats there's a chance they could be too hard.

The stitching and craftsmanship on them was absolutely immaculate tbh. They were super well made.

5'11"...The low profile of the car, combined with Seat closer to wheel than Normal + Side bolsters, make it annoying getting in & out. But, once I'm in, they are comfortable, not luxury comfort, but enough to satisfy and really great when having fun-->

I'll order them if they are not included in the car.

To the OP, I definitely recommend testing the seats with the front passenger who will be with you most of the time, if there is someone who fits that bill. I've been in the current Recaros, think they are nice and have enough width to accommodate me in the seat bolsters without feeling confining (6'2", 235lb), but I know my wife would definitely tire of them. She doesn't like that feeling, and as my car will be a daily driver, it would make her travel uncomfortable. The getting in and out would be annoying as well to her.

The good thing that S550guy affirms is that the new ones are close to the current ones, so you will have a way to check them out ahead of ordering.

How is the normal seat in the S550? In the pictures it looks way more supportive than the current S197 standard seat. I'm wondering if the difference between seat support is a drastic this time.

While I've had the normal seats in the S197, both leather and cloth, I've never sat in the Recaros. Do they sit lower than the normal seats? I'm 6'4" 240 lbs and I always struggled to get into a comfortable seating position. I always felt I sit too high, the seat can't go low enough and once my legs were comfortable my placement was too far away from the steering wheel. I have the same issue in my Taurus as well.
