Start by saying spirited driver. No burnouts. 8k ish miles. Both rear tires look the same all the way around the inside. Thoughts and what should I do to correct? Maybe some Steeda parts? (Obviously replace at some point) Oh and they are the lovely Pirellis.

How old are they? (there's a date code on the side of the tire that will tell you when they were manufactured). What temperatures have they been driven in?

Those look like they've got cracks developing in other places aside from the obvious chunking.

its not a bad idea to have the alignment checked about as often as most people replace tires, so consider doing that. My guess is that this isn't an alignment issue though, I figure this is a too-old tire.

They are both 0720. I’m in AZ so temps from 40-115 ballpark.

Well thats not that old. IDK why they would chunk like that.
Wondering if wheel hop from semi aggressive take-offs would cause? I drive in track mode most of the time… no TC.

Well something was too much for those tires. Hard launches with wheel hop on hot AZ concrete might have done the damage? Idk still looks like I see cracking which is usually a cold weather issue, but those are the all season so IDK man.

Odd I noticed when cleaning the tail pipes. Wanted to do some wheels and go wider but now I might have to get some new rubber before the wheels. Not sure if I should do a rotation before replacement but if I drop 1k+ on tires I want to prevent this from happening if there is an issue.

Wear on the edge of the tire can be from sliding around corners, or accelerating hard around corners… this looks like a bit more, maybe stored in really hot temps before you got them and lost some life, maybe too many heat cycles?

Rotate, then go get an alignment. Could be a combination of too much negative camber and too much toe in or out.

I would not rotate those. With that much chunking just throw them out.

For AZ and those yearly temps, you’re better off with a summer tire instead of an all-season. A summer tire should hold up better.

What size are your wheels? If you plan ahead you can get a size which will work on your stock wheels as well as your wider next set so you can buy the wheels later without having to buy tires a second time.

No hard corners. Stock 19s CS wheels. Most of my DD is straight. About 16 mi a day. I am somewhat aggressive on takeoffs though. I have rotated once in 8k. Fronts do not have this issue. Right now there are “cold mornings” in AZ. Mid 40s. I want to go Michelin 4s, would those be bad in the low temps in the morning? I do want to go wider with proper wheels, thinking 10in wide but 4-5k for a package isn’t in the cards just yet. Hate to blow $1k+ in tires to get by for now.
