In my neck of the woods auto body shops will not touch a car over with over $2000 in damage without a police report. Does not take much to get to $2000 in damage especially with possible damage to items not even visible.People that call the police for every accident drive me nuts. If it's non-injury, exchange info and call your damn insurance company (you know, that agency you pay to handle these matters). Only thing worse is when people dont move their damn vehicles out of traffic and screw everyone else that shares the world with them.
Do not let anyone but an insurance approved agency repair the vehicle. You'll regret everything about the situation if you dont. Do not report it as a hit and run, it wasnt. You pass the buck along to all of us when you report it a hit and run. The value of your car will not change from a minor accident.
Plus, if the other guy can't produce and license, registration and insurance, that is another time a police report is a good idea.
