As I was researching how to break in my 2019 R and what maintenance it requires during the break in period I don’t recall seeing Anything about changing the rear diff fluid. Im at around 700 miles and getting ready to buy supplies to change the motor oil at 1000 miles.

Does Ford recommend a rear diff fluid change early on like with the motor oil? I don’t remember seeing anything on the users manual either.

No, The differential service interval should be in your supplement owners guide
thanks. I have to take another look at the supplement for the recommendation.

I think I’ll change the diff fluid regardless of what Ford recommends his fall before I put the car away for the winter.

Anyone have any recommendations on brand of fluid? I know you can’t go wrong with whatever Ford recommends but I’ve always heard really good things about Royal Purple. Im considering that as a possible choice.

No way the air filter lasts 30k miles. I change mine every 10K or so. They get real dirty fast.

I replace my rear diff, trans, and brake fluid annually but I also track my car. If your using it for street duty only then go by the manufacturers intervals.

And FYI - I wouldn't wait 30K for an air filter replacement. Those things like to suck in air like a Dyson vacuum.

Agree on the air filter. When I replaced the OEM paper filter for the FP/AirRaid washable filter, I only had 1500 miles on the car. I was shocked how dirty the paper filter was. Just more reason to replace the paper filter with a washable variant.

Agree with Byron about street vs track service intervals. Everyone wants to reinvent the wheel with maintenance and fluid weights. I think Ford put a lot of time and thought into the development of this car and if it required special service I’m sure they would have simply stated that.

Thank you for the input fellers. Maybe I’ll stick to the recommended intervals.

Although I feel like 150,000 miles before replacing the diff fluid is extreme.

One last question, are our differentials gear driven or are there clutch packs in there?

If you want to do it after a few years or after say 20,000 miles or 50,000 miles and you’ve been doing some moderately hard drive and maybe some light track days that’s understandable. But I see people that drive their car 1000 miles a year as a grocery getter and feel they absolutely have to change all the fluids every year. I personally think that’s a complete waste.

It’s all gear driven. I guess that’s why there’s such a high mileage interval because there’s no clutch material from a traditional LSD contaminating the fluid.
true, but heat death is very much a thing for oil. If racing 12 events or more probably half way thru season. Otherwise every 2-3 years would be my call. It's just oil and hardly expensive. Change it "often". I changed mine out before 2000 miles were on the ODO.

I changed mine "early" too, i'd have to check but i think at around 6k miles. mostly track use though.... prob will wait till around 20k for the next change, just wanted to get any break in debris out even though it's probably overkill....
