when I shut the trunk at a local car show. It is a 50-year anniversary car so it's the one that says GT 50 years. It didn't damage it, but I have no idea how to get it back on. It looks like it has some plastic pins that hold it on but I'm not sure. Anyone had any experience with this and know if there is a backing plate that you can get or will I have to try and find a whole new roundel. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is there holes in the panel where the emblem was located ? Panel emblems are mounted with small square metal fasteners that thread onto the plastic studs back side of the panel . Hear anything rattle when opening and closing the trunk lid ?

Yes, there are holes in the panel, and you can feel part of the fasteners that broke sticking out of the back of the roundel. I just don't know if you have to purchase an entire new roundel or if there is a kit of some kind that will re-attach it. No, I cannot hear anything rattling.

You will need a new piece . There are no "repair kits" for it. It will be a fairly large expense to buy the new one and have it installed. You could DIY it but that requires a fair amount of disassembly and the aggravation that goes with it.

Your other choice is to buy some 3M trim tape and just stick your original back on. Trim tape is inexpensive and very, very good at attaching trim pieces.
This would be my choice

Only you know what your OCD will allow.

Sicaflex will make an invisible repair, that is also likely (much) stronger than OE :like:

If your talking about a Two Plastic prong which holds a emblem to a panel, apply a small pea size amount on each side, press into panel, make up something to keep pressure applied for 24 hiurs and never look back. Good luck

The originals were mounted to the deck lid facia and the back side of the emblem had extended plastic pins. The plastic pins were then “hot riveted” to the backside of the deck lid. This method is referred to as shot weld which melts the pins down flat and over, which secured it to the black deck lid.

Once the pins shear and the emblem falls off - like others said it can’t be secured again in the original manner because there’s not enough plastic left to do so (hot weldt).

You can do as WD mentioned above, or buy a new emblem (if they’re still even available now, probably not from Ford but maybe on eBay). Then hot weld the pins using a solder iron.

You’ll have to remove the black panel from the deck lid IF you are going to try to do the hot weld.

Easy fix:
Go to a hardware or auto parts store and get the 3M double sided mounting tape. Apply it to the entire back side of the emblem. Clean the deck lid surface only where the emblem goes using rubbing alcohol, then wipe dry. Press the emblem with 3M firmly to the deck lid panel. That will secure the emblem back on to the deck lid panel.

If the badge is anything like our euro badge, (whilst I haven't seen one removed) I wouldn't expect the back to be a nice flat surface - which might present some difficulties with the tape method ... :frown:

They make those aftermarket that stick on with 3m double sided tape. I used one on my Mustang. No problems.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I used the 3M adhesive that was in DougS550's reply and it seems to have done the trick. The only time I drive it is to take it to a few car shows so it doesn't get a lot of abuse. Only time will tell if it holds up.

3M for the win. Get the black tape with the red plastic that you peel. I used it on my rear dashcam camera after having the heat repeatedly making the original manufacturers double sided tape fail every time it was warm.
