Rear Camera Recall - does the work require getting behind the infotainment center console?

As the title states, for those that had the recall work done for the rear camera, did the techs need to get behind the infotainment console or does the wiring connect somewhere else?

I’m asking because my CarPlay switches on and off intermittently when the car is hot/warm. As soon as it cools down, the connection is solid, and I can speed up the process by closing the vents with the AC on high. I’ve already replaced the module in the center armrest, so my suspicion is a loose connection behind the screen that contracts once cooled.

Was hoping they have to get behind to replace the rear camera wiring and could make sure all the other connections are tight.

For me it’s the whole connection, power for charging and audio/video cuts out for 10-15 seconds at a time, until the car (the console?) cools down.

Crazy.

Hello Blipzyc I finally took my 2017GT in for the recall, and I'm very glad I did
I postponed this for a very long time because the only thing not working was the trunk light, no other problems at all
BUT, they found the entire harness was bad, and it was more than a four hour job to replace
Unfortunately I did not get to talk to the tech, but it's likely with that much time they have to get into the console
Now everything still works, just as before, but my trunk light also works

No, I think that recall is usually juat about the bit of wiring harness at the trunk. I dont think they’ll go under the dash

Wasn’t sure since I’ve tried tracing the wiring myself and it disappears somewhere under the back deck lid.

Does Ford do anything to prevent the trunk from pinching the wires? This is what’s caused my issues. I’ve spliced them myself twice before the recall.

Well, I mean the recall was because the wires were too short and would get fray/break at the trunk hinge area.

if you already spliced them to make them longer at that location, then they probably wont touch it for the repair. I’d double check your work.

Mine are too long then and get pinched when the trunk closes and that pinch point is where they eventually breakdown. I've got a '16 - first spliced in 2018 and again in 2022. Was going to splice a 3rd time and then the recall came out. Was hoping they did something to reroute the wires so they wouldn't keep getting pinched, but if not, I might just keep doing it myself.

Which years are involved? AA is hit or miss as far as connecting goes but all else works fine I believe.

Thanks for the reply. I got a recall notice for a BCM issue and unless I am going to do a certain something I can ignore it. It would be a half day job at the dealer and not in my driveway.
