I've been thinking the last few days about adapting either the non PP front four piston or the old s197 Brembo setup to the rear wheels.

Any thoughts? I'd imagine a bracket setup would be the only issues.

That's the problem.

I have a company almost finished with a 4 pot rear setup but the parking brake would be lost.

Due to the absence of a drum parking brake in the rear, retaining a parking brake is hard.

Why do you think an upgrade is needed? Do you open track or road race the car? Are you prepared to deal with all the complexity of re-engineering the extremely complex abs, traction control, and stability control systems which are calibrated to the current braking system?

An actual "upgrade" to a braking system that goes beyond adding cooling air and/or more track capable brake compounds is an extremely complex project.

You would be better off waiting until Ford Racing Parts or one of the major brake system vendors offers a well engineered and proven, for your intended use, system.

I intend on tracking the car heavily, and just looking into the possibilities.

ABS doesn't concern me so much, as loosing the parking brake.

Couldn't you use a separate small caliper for the parking brake like the Viper had?

You could. It's something I've been tossing around in my head. I can build it. Just need to take a closer look at the rear brake assembly.

Do they make a hydraulic e-brake that locks?

Wait for the GT350 parts to become available. They have a parking brake.

Think ford will make them readily available? I've seen times before where you have to provide VIN numbers in order to order them.

won't be too hard to get a VIN and/or establish a relationship with a local ford dealer. Initially it might be hard but after the hype is gone they'll sell the parts without question.

I know this is an old and dead thread, but....

I recently have decided to try and get the S197 Brembos 4 pots on the back. I want to do it for a few reasons, 1 I would appreciate slightly more rear bias with my setup and 2 I suspect it would be a nice bit of points in the D&E portion of Optima.

My main concerns are getting the adapter right (I haven't Dig in yet to see what the mounting bolt spacing is on the rear) and which 14" rotor to use.

For a parking brake I intend to use an electric brake or figuring out a hydraulic brake I could actuate with the OEM handle.

Any ideas or info to share?

I'm completely aware of the GT350 kit.

I'm looking for a solution with cheaper consumables that can be done for a fraction of the price;)

I've done some measurements of rotor offset and it appears S197 14" rotors are within 1/16", I'll need a new one of each to verify.

It appears with this info, caliper brackets should be relatively easy.

I'm off to pick a cool parking brake solution.
