Only redundant for people who equate attorney and lawyer. Since so many people do, Attorney at Law clarifies that the person has passed the bar and is licensed to practice in some jurisdiction. A lawyer is just someone who has graduated from any law school.

Have you noticed almost all the talking heads on Fox are "lawyers", even the former Raiders Cheerleader who gets a pass for driving a '72 Mach 1?

I'm guessing more than a few "lawyers" are lawyers in the same way Christopher Moltisanti was a stock broker. Just take or have someone take online classes at an online law school. Since some businesses see value in labeling some employees lawyers, they would pay tuition. I wonder if a 3rd party student taking the classes for themselves could do all the coursework twice for not a lot more effort under someone else's name. Almost a victimless crime since that person would never practice law or even come close to passing the bar if they wanted to.
