Absolutely they were. The fun part was picking out the new coolest looking one. I loved Alpine and Bluapunkt.

I only did a "system" in my first car. $600 mechanic special '83 Honda Accord hatchback. 2X4 kept the drivers seat from reclining to the back seat. 0-60 if you were lucky. I beat the ever living snot out of that car! And that's why dad didn't hand me down his '90 fox body GT. Anyway, my "system" was an Alpine with all the shiny lights and a freaking remote. Rockford fosgate 10" punches in a bandpass box. Don't remember the amps but one for the subs and 1 for the mids and tweets. Don't remember the tweets but the mids were boston acoustic 6x9's. About $2500 in 1999 money in a $600 car. Ratty old blanket covered up everything and I turned it way down or off before I would park someplace, never any theft issues. Car Toys loved me!!

I remember my high school buddy bragging his car could do a quarter mile in 10 seconds. Didn't have the heart to tell him my stock VW bug didn't need anywhere near a quarter mile to get to 10 seconds.
