Of those two I would pick velocity blue, but I'm in the camp of race red is skewed too much toward orange. If the Mustang was offered in Redfire Metallic like my Ford Fusion, I just might pick red over VB.

I got so distracted by Hoosierdaddy's VB mirriors I forgot pick a color. You really can't go wrong with either one. The VB looks amazing in most lighting. Sometimes it looks a little faded, but that may just be lighting. The RR has really grown on me. There is one I've seen running around here w/ the black accent package and looks stunning. If I had to choose, even days VB odd RR. But I agree with @StangTime if it's that close between the two, go with the best options/deal. And after you choose, don't ever go look at the other color on a dealer's lot!

Hmm.

I do not see the orange in Race Red like you guys. I see it in Orange Fury :cwl:
This is how I found out my ex brother in-law was color blind. He wanted a red car. Came home from the dealer with an orange car and insisted up and down that it was red despite what everyone else told him. He was happy with it and that's what counts.

I don't see any orange in the Race-Red. It's very red.

Not saying race red is orange but colors are a part of a continuous spectrum. You would find race red closer to orange and yellow on the spectrum than ruby red. Competition orange is closer to red on the spectrum than orange fury. It's more about preference for particular shades.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the concept, I painted cars for 15 years. I know a little bit about tinting colors.

My comment was more centered around the fact that I do not personally see much orange in the Race Red. Technically if you do see orange in that color it would only be because Yellow has been added to the Red, this is how orange is made. Race Red is pretty....well....Red to my eyes.

Would be interested in seeing the formula. I know painters have posted the ingredients for mixing other colors. Maybe one can do that for Race Red. or better yet, a link to some site that gives the formulas for one of the major paint companies. I also see Race Red leaning just a very little toward orange rather than toward purple or being pure red.

Update: BASF has a site that lists the ingredients to mix up any factory color. But the ingredient names give no hint of the colors, but there is a page that shows the color of each ingredient next to the name for a particular paint color. Naturally, those colors won't be displayed 100% accurate but they do give an approximation. The page also shows the relative amounts of each ingredient. So for Race Red, there is a sizable amount of something looking like pure yellow, also something that looks orange. Also a couple of ingredients between red and purple. Race red ingredients and amounts below. The right-most column is the relative amounts of each ingredient. Unfortunately, they don't show the formula for Velocity Blue. Its possible they don't show it because shops can not mix it themselves. I was told (take it for what's that worth) by the high end paint shop I used that they could not buy one of the ingredients because it is used in the production of US currency (don't know if that's the ink or paper) and that ingredient is not available for purchase to make counterfeiting harder. So they were forced to buy the paint pre-mixed from BASF (R-M).

I originally wanted black but have taken precaution regarding the maintenance of black cars
It's not that big of a deal. Helps to have a garage. I wash my car every 2 weeks or so. Sometimes I get lazy and drive thru the touch less car wash. My 2nd choice was Race Red. Can"t go wrong with either IMO.

Agree with above, washed/waxed my black one Sunday and it still looks nice. Garage is a requirement though.

And my comment was more centered around countering any notion that my perception is rooted in color blindness. :) It would be interesting to see if there is yellow in the formula.

See my updated post #27. It has a sizable amount of yellow and orange ingredients. It also has lessor amounts of redish-purple ingredients. I don't know how colors on one side of red affect the impact of colors on the other side of red.
