2019 - Velocity blue

Below is another side by side I took. Velocity is lighter but the biggest difference is that Lightning is a regular metallic while Velocity is a pearl. In fact there are 3 separate pearls in the formula. I chose it for my over the top stripes.

So, that's Velocity on the left and Lightning on the right?

They look so damn close. Why would Ford do that? I mean I can tell there different but not by much. lol

i haven't seen a picture yet that really shows VB well. The difference is much more obvious in person.

It is surprising to me as well but since they aren't both available for a model year, its probably like the other tweaks that are just for the sake of change. Some like the 2015-17 nose better, some like the 2018-19 nose better. We wouldn't want the people coming up with those changes to be unemployed.

Once you pick a year, there is no hard choice. There is no Lightning Blue for 2019 MY and no Velocity Blue for 2018.

Velocity Blue replaces Lightning Blue for 2019. Its not an additional blue.

^ Exactly, you pick light(ish) blue or dark blue, that's it. If you liked Lightning before, you'll like Velocity Blue in 95% of cases.

Didn't know about the pearl vs metallic, but that explains why LB seems to color shift more (imo).

Yeah, I think pearl particles are smaller and rounder so light bounces off in all directions, while metallic are more directional which is why you hear people talking about needing to spray in a way that gets the flakes aligned the same way when blending.

Oh there is not Lightning Blue for 2019? That makes sense. That's why I was confused.

Well I planned on getting Deep Impact or a Lightning Blue but Ruby just looks so bad ass in the sun.

But my next Stang I want to do blue.

My local dealer finally got a Velocity Blue in.

Just driving by it, it does look lighter than Lighting blue but it's not HUGE difference.
It's nice though. Would be a tough decision between the too if I had to pick.

In person the velocity looks better than the lighting blue. IMHO.

A few months ago I had a chance to compare my lightning blue convertible on the left to a velocity blue coupe in a dealership on the right. At least in this late day lighting they looked pretty similar though you can tell velocity blue is a bit lighter.

I’ve haven’t seen a lightning blue in person however VB looks amazing. I’ve never owned a colour that changes so much with the ambient light conditions.
