The numbers don't tell the whole story. The Mustang is simply the better car to drive. So much about the new BMWs feels artificial. The Mustang is the more communicative car. Better steering, more communication. It feels alive compared to the M235i. As another editor on hand during the testing put it in one of our many discussions as we swapped cars, the Mustang is the superset of the M235i's abilities. Nice car. Fast. But if I'm spending the money, I'm buying the Mustang. For me, it's a really easy choice.
The more you write about the mustang, the happier I get. I can't get excited about modern BMWs

And this is coming from someone that has owned numerous BMWs and owned ZERO American cars.

How does it do against the new m3? I'm really glad to hear that it does destroy the m235i because, I was slightly considering it at the back of my mind.

Better steering, and it just feels alive compared to the M235i. As another editor on hand during the testing put it in one of our many discussions as we swapped cars, the Mustang GT is the superset of the M235i's abilities. The Bimmer is a nice car. Fast. But it should not have an M badge (it, in fact, has 16). if I'm spending the money, I'm buying the Mustang. For me, it's a really easy choice. I believe it's the better car, and by a wide margin.
I feel like this is the post-reveal in December all over again. Those that have seen the car tell everyone that you have to see it to truly appreciate it.

What I am getting from you is you have to drive it to truly appreciate it. I'm really liking what I'm reading.

Drive the car, and you will understand. It is all you could have asked for.

As for the "you have to see it" folks...well, the inevitable front end refresh will be welcomed. The first aftermarket company that delivers a grille with driving lights in it, as we've had since '05 on the GT, will print money.

It's just an endless black maw. The 50th Anni grille looks better, imo, because the pony corral helps break up all the empty space.

Did you order yours in Guard? Because if so...I get that. It's instaBullitt.
I get that, too. But I think the 50th grille and rims compliment the Ingot Silver very nicely.

Thanks! It's fun to hang out here with you guys.

As for the M3/M4, I haven't driven the latter yet. The M3 is really, really fast (it was a monster at the Motown Mile) and a very good car, but as with the M235i, I would rather own the Mustang, because it talks to you more.

The BMWs are less involving to me. I know that sounds insane, given Bimmer's history, but it's where I am right now. The last-gen V8 M3 was so great, imo. The new M3 didn't make me feel that way.

I'll get to drive the M3 again at an event tomorrow. Hopefully an M4 is there, too. If I have any new thoughts, I'll share. Yes, the M3 is a bona fide rocketship, but I just thought the Mustang was more fun.

That's great to hear! Out of all the reviews, yours was the most that was very uplifting. I'm excited to get my Mustang whenever it comes.

They 87 Octane.
Ford says you only get about 1% less power with 87. If that's the case, depending on the mileage differences, I'll probably be running 87 exclusively.

That said, I feel like a lot of early tests of acceleration on new cars seems to be on the disappointing side. I think those numbers aren't reflective of what the car's truly capable of.

Hah, really? Do you have a full list of the cars they were testing it with? Why the hell were they comparing it to six-figure exotics and supercars?
They had one as part of their performance car of the year test
