Edelbrock claims their E-Force Stage-1 SC is 50 state emissions legal. "STAGE 1 / STREET SYSTEMS / 466-559 HP & 439-503 TQ"I'm planning on keeping this car in my hands and in california for the next 10 years, so headers and cat delete are out. I'm use to and enjoy racing small underpowered 4cyls with all their power at the top end, so I don't think I'd have any problem moving the V8's power band up higher as long as I could either pass CA smog or swap back to legal without much hassle.
If worst comes to worst, are any of the superchargers for the S197 C.A.R.B. approved? (I know that means higher price for less performance)
Flow master Hushpower mufflers are low volume at idle and normal driving but open up at WOT. I use them to tame my long tubes for normal highway driving and they work great. I can talk on the phone like normal and listen to the music but at WOT it's pure beast mode. I didn't record any audio prior to installing long tubes or I would upload the sound.I've been watching a lot of 5.0 dyno runs and I have a friend with a '13 5.0 with some exhaust work and wow these can get loud at full revs. Most of all, I want my exhaust to make good power (and still be legal in nazi-california) but after power, If it just sounded stock, I'd find that ideal.
Is it even worth modifying the exhaust on the 5.0 for power if I don't care about the sound?
With some other cars I've seen good weight reductions going from huge mufflers to lighter mufflers, but I'm unfamiliar with the 5.0 exhaust system.
Is a lighter weight, more powerful, stock sound volume/quiet exhaust a feasible goal with a 5.0?
The ecoboost F150 responds well with a tune and catless down pipe. Not sure about the mufflers but the OEM stainless units are heavy as hell, but made to last.A chambered muffler on a turbo car is the worst possible choice you an make. A straight thru muffler is a much better choice. I bet the ecoboost responds well with a tune, more boost, and some catbacks.
The Atak systems sounds like the Bullitt sound track!Excellent Borla comparo for their three models on current gen GT:
+1The S-type sounds just right.
One thing to keep in mind on exhaust mods, is if you plan to track your car at a road course, some are instituting sounds policies that are more restrictive than street driving.
Laguna Seca for instance is down to a 90 db limit for most track days, although you can occasionally find an unlimited day here and there.
I've read about other tracks with similar restrictions.
Ironically, it may be that racers will soon need to go aftermarket for a quieter muffler.
