My question is I’ve never had an issue regarding water getting into the engine compartment (drivers side) but recently with heavy rain it has. I’ve checked if there is any blockage or damage and have found nothing. Yes I have an open air element (ford performance power pack 2) and have found water getting in. Anyone with ideas on what is happening or a fix. Never had this problem in the past 3 years.

I came here to answer, but I don't actually see a question.

Anyway. Water is not a problem. If any water does reach the filter it will be shed by the light oil coating. Past that, the rush of relatively dry air going through the filter will dry whatever stays on the element.

I think he's talking about one of the heat extractors. I don't even open my hood often enough to notice if it ever happens to me.

Yes I’m talking about the heat extractor, no I don’t have an oiled filter, and it’s more than just a few drops.

You should be good for another 3 years. Avoid heavy rain. :)

Even the Motorcraft GT350 filters (FA1922) have a coating of oil on them. Water should just bead an roll off.

Even if this layer is gone water will soak into the filter element. It won't enter the engine as liquid.
