Hey fellas,

Here's the situation: I decided to remove the CD player from my base 2016 GT because I have no need for it (I've never once used it) and, more importantly, because I'm trying to cut weight from this pig.

I had some free time today so I decided to go ahead with it. After removing the CD player unit (3 connectors on the back) I ensured that all other connections were snug and then buttoned everything back up.

Here's the problem: I thought that removing the CD player would only disable playing CDs but unfortunately it has disabled MP3 playback via the USB port and has also disabled the radio.

Is this normal or have I screwed something up during the removal process?

Thanks for any input.

Normal. That whole thing is the audio control module I believe so you can't just take it out and have audio continue to play.

I am in the same boat I just took out my cd player out last week out of my base car now the radio will not turn on at all after troubleshooting everything in the book. I expected this was the cause though. Player is only a hair under 3 pounds so no biggie. Time for it to go back in :)

Good to know that I wasn't doing something wrong.

BTW, I blame you for one of my dash clips breaking, lol. It didn't even occur to me to do this mod until I saw your post on the "What Things Weigh" thread.

I must say ive pulled things apart so many times and haven't broken anything yet (and I love to break things) but my god the center plate doesn't want to come out the bottom is so tough to get out.

Tell me about it. That damn face plate was a pain. Even worse was how tight it was to fit my hand behind in order to detach the pinned connectors.

As far as I'm concerned, audio be damned. I couldn't care less if the radio and USB no longer work. I'm not taking that apart again.

Not to mention I value the weight savings over listening to something. I'll have enough delightful sounds to listen to once I get around to installing a cat back anyway.

Haha I need something to hide the rattles though. I put the player back in and the radio came on with no issues :D

CD Player was available on the 2018's, It was deleted on the 19's unless you get the B&O Premium Sound

Ahhh, that explains it. Wife wanted Navigation so we were only looking at Nav+9 speaker cars (I wanted the B&O system but none of Mustangs we liked had it and didn't want to special order one.)
I guess i'll just have to transfer my collection to a very large flash drive.
Thanks

I have a 2019 GT (non-premium). Do you know if it's possible to do a basic R&R of the three (3) pieces (+ face plate) of the CD/audio system from a 2018 into a 2019?

Just guessing but I think that should work. The ACM is self contained including HD FM, Sirius, travel link and all.
