I've decided to not go with a CAI for my 2019 GT and just do a K&N drop in filter. The general consensus here says that the increase in HP seem to come more from the tune, rather than the CAI. Besides, the 2018+ GT's already have a larger cold air pipe than the previous years. I confirmed it. Lund offers a tune and RTD device for $800. I have experience with the SCT line of tuners, but this RTD unit is new to me. There's not much online about it either. nGuage is not available anymore and Lund no longer supports SCT tuners. New writes are for RTD only. Does anyone have any experience with this unit?
I already have an X4 from my previous car and I'm very familiar with it. I know Lund is one of the best in the business, but $800 for a tune and simple OBDII device seems a bit high. Maybe its not? Would I have better results if I took my X4 to my local mustang shop and have them put the car on the dyno and write a tune?

The RTD is $300, $200 for credits from HP tuners, then $300 for the tune. I think the price will be the same or really close among the tuners.

I use it for tunes/logs. You'll also need a laptop to interface with it.

The RTD's are really user friendly just as the nGauges were. Unfortunately with the nGauge no longer being produced Lund had to make the switch to a new tuning device/ platform. The HP platform is extremely versatile along with the user friendliness of the RTD.

Lund also just started utilizing the TDN app as well that allows you to upload tunes, datalog and even see live data all from the TDN app on your phone or tablet.

Yes - I've used it with Lund tunes (93/Flex/E85R) - it works perfectly fine, for both programming and datalogging.

Lund is good, only thing with the RTD it gives you ZERO flexibility. Say, you change CAI, now you need to email them within you revision period (150$ if you're past it) then 5-7 business days you'll have it. Whereas with other tuning devices (in my case Diablosport Trinity 2 EX Platinum), I can change tire/gear ration/ low rpm spark/high rpm spark/low fuel/high fuel/cam angles/MAF size/fan engagement/etc. Data logging is second to none. Then you can marry/unmarry as many times as you want. There's a ton of 'canned' tunes. You can even add other sensors say like IAT2 to the EAS. So it boils down to pick and choose how much you wanna spend and how much control you want as the end user who spent some hard earned cash. Cheers.

Thank you Terry, Andrew, KZ, WildH. All good info. I'm going to reach out to our local mustang shop this week and see what they charge for a dyno tune. Wouldn't a dyno tune be better than a tune file you get from another vendor?

Lund sends you a tune they think works with your mods, make you datalog then revises if needed. Not a dyno tune but not a plain canned one either. If you have a knowledgeable dyno tuner that knows what he is doing, they probably can do it better depending on what your needs are - but I am very very far from being expert in tuning. I simply purchased tunes from Lund, RTD was the only option at that time (few months ago), they seem to be working very well.

It is the same process. The sensors on the car provide a log, they tweak things, then make adjustments to the tune. The big name guys have a long record of making power. Your local guy could be better, and spend more time on your tune. However, the big name guys have a large set of data to pull from and will likely get it as good as possible rather quickly. If you have a safe place to datalog on the street then a remote tune will work. The turn around at Lund during the week is quick. Sometimes I'd get a revision before I was home (would do a log, hot spot the phone, then go home).

There are well known tuners that will still support SCT if you wanted to keep same device for now. Shaun @ AED is one example. I believe Steeda does too.

The RTD is the Ngauge replacement. We sell plenty of them and hear a ton of positive feedback. All of your data-logging is done via laptop. Lund Racing and Palm Beach Dyno are the best tuners in the game. If you are interested in buying an RTD and tune combo we have them here at www.lethalperformance.com. If you have any questions on the RTD or Lund or PBD tunes feel free to give me a holler. https://www.lethalperformance.com/s...18-2019-ford-mustang-gt-coyote/custom-tunes-2
