I recently installed Hellion TT top mount kit on my 18 Mustang (Manual). The car was pulling knock sensor for timing on both e85 and 93 fuel, so I'm pretty sure its a false knock somewhere but I can't figure out what is causing it. My shop went through the installation and piping multiple times but they couldn't find what was triggering the false knock. Do you guys think I should go ahead and get me a BMR k-member and see if that would eliminate the false knock ? many people mentioned that the stock one could be causing it. Anyone here had similar issue and an aftermarket K-member solved it ?

Fitment on my BMR street K-member was trash apparently due to extremely loose tolerances on their jig and they didn't care. They gave me the runaround over multiple phone calls asking for pictures and measurements only to do nothing for me, not to mention that they admitted that there were some design flaws, but they were rushing to get it to market. Ended up paying a local fabricator to make it fit properly You might be okay with the race version, but they will never get any more of my money after that experience. If I had to do it again, I'd spend a little more for the Steeda.

I used the light weight one, no fitment issues for me. Didn't do it for knock, was for the diet.

Just to provide a little context on the Steeda unit that is mentioned above.

When we designed our Steeda K-member we worked closely with John Urist from Hellion Turbo to incorporate mounting tabs for the turbo plumbing to make installation a breeze.

Also, our Street Version (555-5061-HT) was designed around his EPA legal turbo kit with low-mount turbos for a perfect fit and finish.

Hope that provides a little more insight into the Steeda K-Member.

Best Regards,

TJ

Not sure I am following - I am in a private conversation with the OP & I am going to route his concerns to his lead tech.

Happy to provide context to your answer but I am not sure what you are referencing.

OP was referring to BMR giving him the run-a-round. This wasn't about Steeda.

I've had similar experiences with BMR's shit and will NEVER, EVER, EVER, buy anything made by them again.

I'm really lost, my shop went over the installation multiple times and couldn't find the issue. we ran both 93 and e85 and still getting the knock. which make you think its false knock. Someone in some FB group, said that he fought the knock for a long time and didnt go away till he replaced his K-member. Trust me if I can avoid it, I would. I'm just trying to do anything possible to eliminate that stupid knock. I don't want to desensitize them yet, but its a possibility down on the road.

i remember on the older cobras once they started making big power knock sensors got deleted because they would do the same thing. i guess if overboost is accounted for and the onboard widebands are GTG you should be fine, i'd hate to ditch a knock sensor unless i had to with such an expensive build.

I have the steeda drag racing k member, which I installed myself, and it was perfect. So much more room to work around the low mount turbos. But, I'm not sure and would be highly suspicious on how the stock subframe would contribute to knock.
