I looked out my window and was looking in the rearview mirror to change lanes, and I happened to see my puddle light dangling out of the mirror. Like, literally popping out of the mirror. The car has 23,000 miles. It’s a 2015. I tried pushing it back up into the hole, but it just falls out. Has anyone had this happen to them? How do I fix this? How do I get these things to stay in the mirror?

It’s possible that someone tried stealing it. They usually won’t just fall out, as the part has compression tabs on it, so once it’s pushed into place, it grabs the interior of the plastic to hold it in place. They won’t even come loose with road harshness.

You can either buy a new or used one (eBay or elsewhere) or try dabbing some black silicone behind it, press it into place then place masking tape or painters tape over it to hold it up. Remove the tape in about an hour and it should not move or fall from the mirror.

I just had the drivers side puddle lamp replaced under warranty , the little clip that held it in broke in half, and allowed the lamp to hang down, it happened when I closed the door after gassing up.
The clip was very brittle.

I've had this happen on both our 2015 and our 2017 (my 2015 is always garged and probably about the same mileage as yours when it happend). Like said, there is a small plastic tab that snaps in place when the light is installed. The fitment is very tight, and if you have ever installed one of these, you can see how easy it may be to accidentally cause damage to that tab, causing it to finally fail after a period of time. That's just my theory anyway...

Same here. Had it happen to my 19’ GT/CS. Broken clip. Dealer replaced in five minutes. Stuff happens.

Aha. So I'm not the only one... I put mine in with some mastic until I can figure out something more robust, or get a replacement.

Same thing with mine. Driver mirror too. Noticed it hanging on the wire doing 130+ on the front straight at Utah Motorsports Park. This was 2 years ago and at the time the replacement part from Ford was just under $200 so I put a piece of tape over it and forgot about it. The price went down considerably last year so I replaced it.

The latest version of the puddle lamps aren't immune to it either ...
