Hi there #7, I'm out at station 4 working and love the sound of your car going by. Thanks, my car feels great but will try a little tweak to the shocks to see if I can pick up a little forward bite today. Good luck out there for third runs!

(We're on break while they work out timing issues)

yea congrats Steve! Looked super hooked up today from corner two :D
Thank you thank you. It was awesome to push Chris and even have the lead for a while and it's been a long time since I've been in that position in National Solo. The take away for both Chris and I is we're both not nearly fast enough compared to other established classes or even FS. So there's work to do.

I was talking to Boardkat about it to get ideas since he's clearly able to get smoking fast times in the S550 on street tires. I think the number one thing I need to improve my car with is corner exit oversteer. I should be able to get nice 4 wheel drifts off sweepers and I can't right now. I just get loose.

There's also a chunk of weight I could lose easily with a tiny lithium battery, two piece rotors and more work on my exhaust. All it takes is $$, haha.

Nice to have met you, Opposite Lock, and even chat "live" through the forum during the event. I have good video from today as well and will post it when I get to a hotel tonight.

It's amazing how you feel pretty good about how things are going back home and that you're decently dialed in:

Then you go to a national event on a real autocross site where the speeds are are like twice as fast and the grip .20g better:

It was a blast but I can see some things to improve my setup with and I will.

This is a cool shot:

Thanks a bunch Mrs analog for the awesome pics!

Pictures can be extremely difficult to interpret unless you know what corner they were taken in or it was obvious they were taken with the car fully loaded in the direction of interest.

Just from the pictures, more camber would be a good place to start! Get those tires happier then work on killing that brake dive!

There's a little more to the story cuz in the ESP thread I was asking about diffs and getting off corners better. I have been focused since Crows on possible changes to improve corner exit but I hadn't seen these pics until late today. The pics indicate a few more things to consider.

I think I need to drop the rear ride height, a stiffer front bar setting (on concrete) and see if more front compression helps (on concrete). I am planning to try the smaller factory rear bar locally but on concrete I might need the stiffer rear bar if the other things work out. More front spring would probably help a lot.

I went to full stiff on the front bar and it helped with corner exit.

I have to post a picture of my car in the turns...... It's really flat. And with - 3.9 camber the tire is flat in the turn.

Thanks for the info and hoping it works for me too. I also think my butt is too high up in the air from looking at those pics. I will try to lower it and see what that does for me.

Sure, but you know what else would help with corner exit traction? A rear tire that isn't in positive camber. I've fought with a number of FS guys on what the "ideal" camber settings are out back since the vast majority of us FS guys are running stock settings. After my first event in the car I knew exactly what direction the car needed to go just based on driving it. With a front bar in the middle position and -2.2Âş of camber the car comes off of corners MUCH harder and with the exception of some stupid tight stuff, is balanced and has a hint of understeer in the tighter stuff.

The benefit of having an IRS out back is in the ability to tune the rear alignments. Get the tires happy and then make adjustments from there. The only way you'll know if the front or rear bar changes are going to be ideal is if you make the tires happy first.

I hear what you are saying and you have valid points but I'm not in FS. In STP I have more allowances that I can use to fix the pitch and roll that I see going on in the pics (and I have a lot more pics from the event that aren't posted). IMHO I feel like even better gains would be had to make the car corner flatter and more balanced so that I didn't need more than the -2.0 deg neg camber I'm set to now in the rear. Front is at -3.1.
