Problems found on Australian Mustangs

Just going through this list. There seem to be lots of niggling stuff, but nothing too egregiously bad or catastrophic. I think we can safely say that all the things we heard about US build quality, as a broad rule, were true (I was only familiar with '60s US cars). And I don't think the niggling things can be expected to improve, so we just have to put up with it and make sure it's all fixed up at delivery (or before delivery rather) or under warranty.

The most frequent somewhat more serious issue (aside from the unexciting exhaust sound ) is that "walking over a loose manhole cover" sound when putting into gear/reverse on the autos, but even that isn't a disaster. Luckily the good aspects of the car clearly outweigh the bad. I've not heard anything that makes me say, "hell, I must cancel my order immediately".

I think you're onto it. In fact, broadly speaking, the build quality of my Mustang is pretty darn good. I'd go as far as to say that we're getting a pretty good value package, all in all.

Are the cars still getting half painted with black paint all over everything underneath?

I can't comment on other peoples cars but after looking at mine, it almost seems like the exhaust system was their prime target. The actual underbody itself saw bugger all of the stuff and yet they remarkably managed to get quite a bit on the rear wheels... Truly amazing.
I guess they don't realise that the exhaust is the first thing most people remove :shrug:
It's all a bit weird really.

is it cause its not painted? and raw cast iron/steel? and has surface rust on it or is it cause of the quarantine reasons?

I don't believe it has anything to do with quarantine requirements. My dealer agrees. We think it's because one of the surveys done by Ford revealed that people in export countries were really unimpressed with seeing uncoated/rusty surfaces on their new imported car. So it's a quick fix. Which is less impressive again to me because I have to pull the car apart to do it the way it should have been done in the first place!?!!

well it sure is getting removed and replaced, i just hope that i wont have to paint strip the amateur spray painter look :frusty::lol:

Yeah mine looked like they were going for the exhaust... but managed to get it all over the rear wheels, fair bit on front bumper and sides of car !!:frusty: Anyone have any luck getting it off the spokes of rear wheels or have any suggestions for removing it ? I'm going to try a clay bar I reckon

Clay bar works for sure. I clayed, polished and waxed one wheel for a test. Much easier to keep that wheel clean. The rest happen today, time permitting.

I used to clay and polish wheels every 12 months, it make it so much easier to keep them clean and keep brake dust away as it hardly sticks to it and washes away with water.

I was listening to the Rumour file this morning on radio 3AW, and a there was a caller who reported paint problems with Mustangs. He said that his was being attended to, but suggested owners look carefully all over their cars to ensure they don't have issue. I gathered the issue he found were not in readily visible locations.

I know there have been a number of reports here about some people with paint problems, as well as various other issues.

Does anyone know whether there has been a summary made of AUS Mustang issues? I think it would be very helpful as a checklist to use on delivery day.

If there isn't a list, I'll be pleased to go back through this thread and summarise.

I've added a few things. Aside from test drive for noises etc., can anyone think of anything else?

• Panel Alignments - Check them all. Refuse anything else. Boot lid alignment as well.
• F5 SD card for Maps (Nav only), some come with F4 (out of date) - Ask your dealer to upgrade this. NAV/SHAKER pro pack only. Comes in Center Console / arm rest SD Card slot
• Rear Window alignment / not shaking
• Bonnet Pinch (Center of bonnet is pinched in) - FIX: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40731
• Under-spray in the correct places, not haphazardly done
• Wire Loom fix input (Heat resistor on loom) - IMPORTANT. If it is not done, arrange your dealer order the parts IMMEDIATELY and book yourself in to get it fixed. Better safe than sorry. GT ONLY (The wiring loom fix is basically dumbed down to 'Tin foil and cable ties' around a wiring loom that is close to the engine. Every car should have this on, it's basically a heat shield that protects the loom. This issue has came about after 1 customers car's engine begin to 'blow up' (Set fire) and it got written of, the solution was to heat shield the loom that is near to the engine)
• Tyre pressures, fluid levels
• Pony light projections isn’t distorted
• 'Delivery Mileage' – Check Odometer
• Plates correctly applied
• Glove box is correctly aligned
• Tail light condensation (check post delivery)
• Electric windows work and rubber doesn’t catch
• Window sticker is present
• Paint swirls/Spider-Webs - Incorrectly 'prepared for pickup'. Also look for paint coverage issues in not visible places on doors, boot, around bolts in the doors and frame etc. There have been many instances where Ford Australia is correcting paint problems.
o No dodgy paint work - Bubbles/silicone on the paint
o No Dents anywhere
o No Dirt anywhere
• Scratches or marks on anything
• All extras ordered have been added to the car – Cargo liner
• Correct price – ensure aligns with purchase agreement
• Two keys with the car (Key blade in the key fobs as well)
• Proper 'Sync' installed version installed (Sync 3 post June 2016)
• Check operation of all lights
• Ask if they can put the car on a ramp to check steering suspension and brakes.
• Check mirror's are operational and fold properly

• Locking wheel nuts fitted
• Trunk / boot light functioning
• Manuals/service books
