I think you're onto it. In fact, broadly speaking, the build quality of my Mustang is pretty darn good. I'd go as far as to say that we're getting a pretty good value package, all in all.Just going through this list. There seem to be lots of niggling stuff, but nothing too egregiously bad or catastrophic. I think we can safely say that all the things we heard about US build quality, as a broad rule, were true (I was only familiar with '60s US cars). And I don't think the niggling things can be expected to improve, so we just have to put up with it and make sure it's all fixed up at delivery (or before delivery rather) or under warranty.
The most frequent somewhat more serious issue (aside from the unexciting exhaust sound) is that "walking over a loose manhole cover" sound when putting into gear/reverse on the autos, but even that isn't a disaster. Luckily the good aspects of the car clearly outweigh the bad. I've not heard anything that makes me say, "hell, I must cancel my order immediately".
Would that be a fair summary?
