The system that drops the window 1/4 of an inch when opening and closing the door is malfunctioning on my car - passenger side. It has started popping up and down at random as I drive, usually popping down and staying there, causing high road noise to enter the cabin. I have discovered that the door handle feels a bit loose, and by wiggling it (with the door closed) I can cause the window to move up and down as if it was opening. Is the sensor that controls this in the handle itself? Do you think the handle just needs tightening? Appreciate any insight on if this is something I can fix myself, or if I (God forbid) need to go to the dealer... I have limited mechanical fortitude. My theory for fixing things is "if it doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer." Thanks in advance for any advice!

The manual says
“DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION > GLASS, FRAMES AND MECHANISMS - SYSTEM OPERATION AND COMPONENT DESCRIPTION > SHORT DROP WINDOWS
When the window motor senses a door has been opened (by monitoring its door ajar switch), the window motor opens the window slightly to clear the grooved channel weatherstrip. After the door is closed, the window motor senses the closed door, and the window motor fully closes and seats the window glass into the grooved channel weatherstrip. This function is on both the coupe and the convertible.”

and “Door ajar switches (integrated into the door latches)”

And “
Door Latches
The door latches are sealed units and contain the door lock actuator, lock/unlock feedback switch, and the door ajar switch. The door lock actuators operate in 2 directions, depending on the polarity of the voltage. The door latches can be lubricated, if needed.”

So it does look to be integrated into the latch. Do the courtesy lamps flick on and off with the window movement as well? If so it may we’ll be the latch that is the problem.

Anyway I am new to the. Mustang so may have it wrong. Best of luck 😄👍🏻

Appreciate the info. Helpful. The lights do not flicker on and off with the window action, but you gave me the name of the part I may be looking for - "door lock actuator." It pulls out separately when you remove the door handle (thank you, YouTube.) :)

Window regulators are somewhat common on S550's due to their constant use. If the cluster isn't notifying you of an open door/courtesy lights don't turn on, good chance the motor circuitry has a fault for sensing the window's position or door latch position.

I'm actually having a similar issue right now with my 2018 eco on my passenger window. It started out the blue a few days staying in the drop down position. Infrequently. I read about putting dielectric grease in the plug after blowing it out with air to remove moisture... And so I did, But no luck for me. Deff sounds like the door latch actuator to me. (Idk if you've tried those options)
Also tried to reset the window, but that sounds like it's only for issues with auto up/down.
Any feedback on if I'm right or wrong would be appreciated!

Having the same issue right now. Dealer is going to replace the window motor and, I assume, the connector. I have no warning lights popping up on the dash.

What is the cost, if you don't mind my asking?

Extended warranty is going to cover it. Part is supposedly about $150 and about an hour labor so if self-paying about $250.

That was the part the dealer replaced on mine. Passenger side - FR3Z-9923394-B

Ok, so I first used dielectric grease on the latch actuator but didn't seem to fix it(tho ostensibly helped..) after more reading about the window motor I cracked the door open like a clam to put some on the window Motor plug, that did have water around it fwiw, and drove it around for a bit and ..... Soooo far it's not constantly fluttering open like it had the last few days.

Possibly very helpful, thank you. Mine stopped acting up for about a week, and then after a day out in the rain started popping up and down again. I was suspecting water may be part of the problem.

Not very reassuring that it isn't constant but apparently still (fluttering). It looks like the motor is easy to replace once you get to it in that photo, hex screws but how about what looks like the cable that raises and lowers the window. There must be a disconnect somewhere on the window bottom?

I can't understand why the passenger side, like mine, seems to be the one most all complain about here. Less used than the driver door but the one that breaks! Is it the motor that has the control over how far the window lowers and raises when the door is opened or the computer that regulates it?

I initially thought I was sitting on my remote that activated it somehow. Has anyone gone further to see if the computer could be a cause or is the regulator motor the most likely culprit? Not sure just how common this problem is but mine started just a week ago and I found this thread pretty fast but apperntly no recall on this...yet? Hoping for a definite fix by someone here soon but I will try the plug cleaning for now.

Thanks
Russ

Quick update: after adding the dielectric grease to the regulator Motor plug I've not had 1 hiccup thus far. 🤞🏻
