Wanted to let y'all know and see if anyone else has experienced this... changed my oil and filter this past weekend. The auto parts store didn't have any Mobil 1 filters (I've always used Mobil 1 5W20) or Motorcraft so I decided on K&N. Everything went normal, but Monday I noticed a pool of oil in my usual parking spot.. but it is a garage at my apartment complex so might not have been from me and I just didn't notice it before. But this morning I checked it on start up and yep I was losing quite a bit of oil from the filter/gasket/engine connection. Went to a different store, got a Motorcraft filter and some oil to replace it. K&N filter looked fine, gasket looked fine, engine block mating surface looked a little dirty but not too bad. Cleaned it off real well, put on the new Motorcraft filter, topped off and revved the engine up to max oil pressure and everything was fine.

Anyone else have a problem with those filters? Before you ask, no the old gasket wasn't stuck on or anything. The filter was tightened correctly. I've been changing my own oil on 3 different Mustangs for 15 years and have never had a problem, so I'm inclined to blame the filter since the very first time I ever use a K&N filter I have a leak.

I am gonna say the K&N had wrong thread depth meaning the thread bottomed out before the gasket did.
MC should be available from your local walmart.

Never experienced this! I used a K&N filter to get me back to NY from Texas and it functioned perfectly. I normally use RP.

Good point, didn’t think of that. But it didn’t feel like the thread bottomed out when I was putting it on.

I've only used K&N oil filters on my 2015 Stang and have never had a problem. Used K&N on my last car too and no issues. Maybe a defective filter?

I had an oil leak from a factory oil filter on another make of car, it does rarely happen. In maybe 100 oil changes I've done it's happened exactly once, using all kinds of brands. Took the filter off and examined it. Nothing I could see but it DID seem to bottom out quickly. I cleaned things up, put it back on and gorilla tightened by hand until it stopped, and the leak went away.

It does pay to watch, good catch!

Idk how you tightened the filter.
Factory asks for 8ft lbs and then half turn.
