I ordered my Ford Perf. power pack 2 today (air box, throttlebody, tune) from Jegs getting $40 off per their nice coupon code.

DFW Ford dealers are quoting me from $325-450 for the install (2017 GT perf pack). I called Ford Performance and asked if an ASE certified shop or if just any certified ASE mechanic could install. The told me if I have an ASE buddy they could install and just provide their info with the registration/warranty submission.

Has anyone used an ASE cerf. buddy for the install? Would appreciate your thoughts/experience. I could install this myself in an hour or less...which drives me nuts... but need the ASE box checked for the extended warranty and play the game. Thanks!

The Ford Performance warranty only covers the 3yr/36,000 mile period from when the vehicle was new. What year is your car? It may not be worth paying for the install.

You’ll love the Power Pack 2 kit. Best bang fo the buck for these cars. I am more than happy with mine!

How many miles? If you don't have any problems yet....I'd save the money and do it yourself. If you know a friend or somebody who does that can certify the paperwork for you, do that. Don't pay the Ford price. In fact, don't bring it to Ford. Because they did the one on my '15 and screwed up the window return so my windows wouldn't automatically scooch up when you closed the door....and they had to take my doors apart to reset the motor because the normal way of unplugging the battery and dicking with the buttons didn't work.

You might want to contact FORD about this kit and your ESP. I don't know if they would be compatible. As stated this warranty through Ford Performance is from the vehicles in service date so without the ESP in the picture you are only covered for 3 years or 36k. You are at the 3 year mark already. That ESP you have might be a problem here.

Likes others have said, as I understand it the warranty from Ford Performance is not agreeable to the ESP. Rather Ford raises an issue or not who knows. But they certainly wouldn't have to honor a drive train warranty claim if you have the Powerpack 2 installed. It seems like dealers play friendly in these situations but if it is a concern to you, and is it to me, you need to consider if it is worth possible having a drivetrain repair bill to deal with.

Thanks for the thoughts on this, guys. I'd recently purchased the PremiumCare ESP to cover the Mustang for the next 4 years/miles based on my research on this topic and after calling Ford Protect and Ford Performance to confirm having a certified ASE install a Power Pack 2 would not impact the drivetrain coverage under an extended premium ESP warranty. I just re-read the PremiumCare documentation and Ford Performance documentation to see if there was any language addressing installation of Ford Performance parts and don't see any disclaimers or language on the topic.

I'll call both of these Ford groups back to double check.

The dealer that has provided you the estimate for the install, would this dealer agree it would not be a problem for warranty coverage?

The FP documentation states that this pack does not void your warranty (including any extended ESP you may have purchased) and the warranty will work fine *IF* the parts did not cause the issue. But it also states that these parts are "aftermarket" and based on that, if these parts are shown to have caused the damage after the initial 3/36 you may have warranty claims denied.

You have to read in between the lines, but it's pretty clear that these are aftermarket parts. Proceed with caution, but I went ahead and cancelled my extended ESP after installing the FP PP2.
