Hey guys, been lurking for a while. I've pretty much only driven small turbo 4 cars my whole life and I've been wondering how the other half lives lately. 90% sure I've got my current car sold, 15 GTI, so I've been looking at all kinds of replacement options. Today I checked out a 15 Mustang GT premium PP car and I really liked it. Race red, adaptive cruise, voice nav and parking assist and 30k miles. It's listed high at a dealer, go figure, but I'm more interested in what little things about a used mustang I should be looking for. As long as it's still there once my car sells I'm planning on purchasing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Panel gaps. Rear fender to bumper. Rear bumper to trunk lid. Front bumper to hood/fender. Rear seat gap may not be symmetrical. Interior rattles over bumps.

These are the main issue of the mustangs if they exist. I highly recommend looking into a 16+ as they come with sync 3 a way superior version which is also CarPlay/android auto compatible.

The main mechanical issue I’ve seen talked about is the ac evaporator failing. Mines fine personally but I’ve seen the most forum complaints by Floridians

Take it on a good 30 minute drive once you have decided that you want this particular car. If its a manual, listen for any gear grinding noise. Engine wise, listen for ticking/tapping noise or rattling from the engine (stand outside and have someone rev the car from idle to 2500 RPMs and listen for this ticking/tapping. While cruising on the highway, you should not feel any vibration or buzzing (check the rear view mirror for a fuzzy view), if yes to the vibration than this particular car has the driveshaft imbalance issue.

The rest is basic things like, how well its been maintained, paint, interior surfaces etc will tell you a lot about how the previous owner kept the car.

Thats all I can think of as other will chime in with more things to look for.

Good luck!

Curious: what made you sell your GTI?

Thanks for the replies. I drove the car today, mostly under 60 and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Paint and interior look great, one owner Florida car with low miles tells me old person. My reason for selling my current car is I'm bored and ready to move on lol. Had a few fun cars over the past 14 years.

95 eclipse gsx-465awhp 370awtq
08.5 Mazdaspeed 3- slammed static on CCW wheels
11 VW GTI-bagged, shaved on BBS
15 be GTI-bagged, stage 2, on BBS

Now I'm ready to get back into something more performance oriented instead of just looks. Looked at Camaros, vettes, Audi S models, and the s550 just seems to be the best value for dollar spent. Never thought I'd end up in a Ford, my dad has worked for GM for 40 years, but even he can't argue that it's a nice car.

Take the VIN to a Ford dealer and ask for an oasis report. If that car has been through a Ford dealer service department, it will show up on that report.

The short answer is no, there's no major issues that plague most 2015+ cars. There's some evap core issues here and there, the occasional engine issue of ticking, and really that's about it.

Look into a warranty, a Ford extended warranty, if it's available.

"They told me it was old person" Every used Mustang I looked at was traded in by old guy who babied it. Told the last dealer that you guys need to come up with a new line.

Yep! I actually had a salesman tell me that a 2013 I looked at a few years back was a one-owner, traded in by a guy in his 80's. Then proceeded to tell me about the 2 sets of aftermarket axle backs that came with it...when I pressed him on it (seemed strange someone in their 80s would have multiple aftermarket exhausts), he admitted it was his personal car.

Another was a low-mileage 2016 last year. Salesman said a guy bought it for his wife as a retirement gift, but she didn't like the manual trans, so they traded it in and bought an automatic. The same day, the finance mgr told me a young couple bought it but couldn't fit all the kids and gear when taking them to baseball practice, so they traded it in for an SUV.

I gave up on looking at used cars at that point.

To clarify that was my opinion of it, not what the sales guy stated. My dad's been in the car business my whole life so I know how those guys operate. I based my judgement by the low miles for the year and the condition of the vehicle. Also if anyone is familiar with the demographics in Southwest Florida you might agree with my old guy statement. :cwl:
