Saying that turbo engines don't last as long is pure nonsense..... mine works great. 100k miles, hard miles with laxed maintenance, extremely spirited driving... I still kept up with oil changes as much as possible... sometimes went over the average miles to change say 10k, still works like a champ... only had the diverter valve for the turbo fail once within the audi warranty period and a standard recall on the coil packs for the ignition system.... that was it..... with proper maintenance. It can also make a big difference and I was also using Mobil 1

i know several who blew up their subaru turbo ej25x engines (2.5L Turbo). but that's mostly due to weak piston ringlands.
Stock engines?

did you ever have top off your audi like my friend has to with his 2007 A4 S-Line 2.0T, every 1k miles, since delivery of the vehicle?

audi said it's "normal". he's got 60k miles on it now.

No... not really.... the engine did start to leak after 60k miles.. which is the time the timing belt is recommended to be changed.... never did but I did have some oil leaks, after I got my truck though. .alot of driving was spilt between the two then it sat for a while when I was on my deployments a year plus between 09/10 though ... that's when more leaks developed and some gremlins started to creep out but the engine always ran great. Not sure how it ran at my parents house.... my dad could not drive it without stalling... he drives manuals so this was different and my mom can't drive stick.. no telling if any rats got the better half of it but sitting want a good thing either... it held oil pretty well, never had to add any between changes unlike my truck with the 5.4 triton. Which is known for that

When people are talking about city/highway mileage, I think it might be helpful to post information about average speed so we can know what people mean, since there are very different types of "city" driving. The timer that counts "engine running" time is extremely useful in this respect.

For example: I reset my mpg monitor at every fillup, and on my current tank, I've gone 86 miles and the car's been running for 4 hours and 34 minutes. Included in that was a straight shot, 40 mile highway drive at 55-70 mph; the rest has been city driving. My current computer-listed mpg is 15.8.

So, during this tank, my overall average speed has been 86 miles / 4.57 hours = 18.8 mph. If we take the "highway" driving part out, assume it's 40 miles in 40 minutes, then my "city" driving has been 46 miles in 3 hours and 54 minutes, or 46 miles / 3.90 hours = 11.8 mph.

So, for me, my city driving has been done at an overall average speed of 11.8 mph. Obviously that includes both time stopped at idle in traffic or at red lights, combined with time actually moving. If people could post their average speed in city driving, that might be helpful in letting us know what types of driving give what types of mileage.

On a side note, that is horrendous. I don't understand why people drive in NYC.

I've been getting about 15 MPG with mostly city driving, using regular E10 gas, winter in Minnesota, and a heavy foot. It's what I expected. I can get up to about 25 MPG on the highway with cruise control. Still less than a 1K miles on it.

I love driving, specifically including driving in heavy traffic at 5 mph. It's my favorite passtime. There's something very rewarding to me about edging my way in between cars while trying to merge in from an onramp and getting middle fingers and curses from taxi drivers enraged that'd I'd want to actually get into a lane.

Like, I drove to work today, and the six-mile drive took me 50 minutes... it's the most soothing 50 minutes of my day.

Only takes me roughly 30 minutes or less to drive 24 miles each way to work on a good day... the worst was 3 hours the same distance and 8 hours once driving from fort worth to Denton since the highway was shut down... had to make a pit stop at the liquor store after that because it sucked so bad.... was feeling good that night after getting home then cracking open the bottle...lol
