Hey guys, a few years ago I installed a carbon fiber steering wheel. Now I'm wanting to install an aftermarket airbag cover. But this time I'm having a lot of trouble removing the airbag. My concern is that when I installed the carbon fiber steering wheel, I'm not sure that I transferred over the release springs. Anyone know if it's possible to mount the airbag without the release springs?

The springs are what holds the horn/airbag assembly to the wheel. If a spring was missing I can't see how it would stay in place. You're probably not hitting the spring in the right spot to compress the arm. The left side is easy but the right side is quite difficult.
All I can suggest is to watch a few youtube videos.

Thanks man. I can put that paranoia to rest then. Ive switched out three different steering wheels in the past on this car and have never had this much trouble. I was concerned that maybe this last time I did something wrong. I've never had this much trouble with it.

Yeah. It's a bitch doing the right side. I ended up modifying a screwdriver to help. I cut a notch in the tip to stop the spring from slipping off.

Its not that the right side is a bitch (its symmetrical in there) its that the 2nd side you compress has a bunch of extra binding tension because of the first side you compress.

Something really square and sharp like a allen wrench or new screwdriver should work. An old used screwdriver might not be sharp enough on the corners. I usually use an allen wrench.
