Hello; I have not yet owned a late model Mustang but have done some information searching. I believe the 2016 was the first to have a general IRS (independent rear suspension) for all. Some earlier year models (SVT maybe) had added on IRS but more run of the mill models had live axels before 2016.

Not sure if it still holds true but late model Mustangs I looked at had a place in the trunk where a spare can be fitted. A car without a spare I hope to avoid.

The Mustang, as far as I know, can run 87 octane fuel. Even the V8's.
My 2015 has IRS.

With respect, I'm curious why you are commenting on cars you havent had experience with and don't seem to know much about.

As said above, all S550s have IRS. That started in 2015 and was considered the main upgrade over the previous S195 platform.

Mustangs that come from the factory with 20" wheels, or wide 19" wheels like the Shelby and Mach 1 cars don't come with spare tires because the spares won't fit in the trunk. Instead you get a inflation kit that comes with sealer. It's really not the big deal people make it out to be.

All 5.0 Coyote engines have adaptive timing. Meaning the computer will advance or retard timing based on the fuel. This allows it to run any octane.

And just to clarify about tunes - even if you revert a tuned car back to factory settings, the ECU still records the previous events. So any dealer can plug in and still see the history. Evidence of a previous tune will void the factory power train warranty.

My advice to the OP is to always have the car checked by a Ford dealer for current or previous tunes done on the vehicle. As mentioned there are many horror stories about people buying modded cars and later having catastrophic failures not covered by warranty. Used car companies will not check for tunes and generally will not disclose modifications.

OP sounds like you've had a few muscle mustangs and want to keep the trend going. I was in you're shoes a couple years ago. Don't compromise. Do your homework and find a dealer with unmolested low mile 22 or 23 so it can have an extended warranty. They're out there. You might have compromise on a color. In the end it will probably be fastest most comfortable reliable mustang you'll ever own. I went to the dealer and tested a HPP for grins while shopping a new truck. Walked out and ordered a row your own Mach 1 HP and never looked back. Been the best purchase. YOLO.

My only problem is getting in and out of the car. Having Recaros don't help.

OP, if you want automatic then 2018+ is the way to go.

Since I've daily driven a S550 with and without magneride I strongly reccomend finding a car with magneride if you can. Sure it's more complication and will be more expensive to replace whenever it goes but there is a noticable difference in comfort.

My solution is to sit on the edge of the seat(Recaro) and swing both legs at the same
time to enter and simply swing both legs out on the ground when exiting.
You want your feet close to each other on the swings.

I was not impressed with the S550 Recaros. Not comfortable and you lose heated/cooled seats.

Now the Recaros that Ford put in Focus RS are amazing.
Different strokes.
The recaros felt like a custom fit to me as opposed to the heated and cooled ones.
Enough that I was willing to give up the climate control for the nice tight fit.

THIS!!! the S550 is an absolutely awesome car as delivered stock from the factory. If you want to install modifications, you can make it even better and the choices for mods are almost limitless. The 10R80 transmission is a bit tempermental at first, but the later years (22-23) seem to have more refined programming that addresses many of the quirks. When I tested my 23 10R80 new I thought that it was seriously defective due to alarming/ jarring shifts in sport mode, but now it runs and shifts perfectly in all modes. It's the most smooth auto that I've ever owned. I think that the adaptive learning process takes some time, and more gentle, consistent operation for the first several thousand miles helps it to settle down. I think that if you hammer it too much while it learns, it has difficulty learning, but thats just a theory. I wouldn't hesitate on a purchase! Good luck - you won't regret it.

I stick one leg in while dropping into the seat then bring in the other. I leave the seat in the same position all the time. I tried other ways but this works best for me.

Hey, whatever works for you!
I'm 72 with a bad back, so my method may be weird for younger folks.
