I want a manual...
...not because it's faster - the automatic choice will typically be faster these days.
...not because it gives me "more control" - most autos these days will give you full range of gear selection voiding that old point. They've also become much more responsive which is huge.
...and not because it's more economical - a good auto will typically be more fuel efficient now.

Because it's just more fun and involving. It doesn't make you a better driver; you aren't a better driver by choosing to go manual. It's just way more enjoyable on a daily basis.
Exactly.

It's personal choice. For me, it will be another manual.

No argument, just a matter of personal choice. By the way, while your discussing Ford and "Hill Control" on manual transmissions, engage or dis-engage as you prefer. Try attempting to use an (electronic) push button emergency brake as many high line Foreign Cars have elected to use. Hold the foot brake, have the clutch depressed and (no) manual lift lever between the seats to release? Just push the (E) electronic parking Brake Button and hope for the best. Now (thats) total nonsense, IMO.

My wife's Subaru has one of those electronic P-brakes, and I hate that thing almost as badly as most MT Camaro owners hate their HSA. It's supposed to disengage as you go to move, but it doesn't always let go soon enough (or at all, sometimes). It's probably made me stall half a dozen times in my almost-dead-level driveway, which is a significant discouragement to ever using it unless I've stepped out of the car and left the engine running for some reason.

The only car I've driven with a hill hold assist function was an M Coupe (Z4). The brakes immediately released as soon as the clutch had any degree of engagement or if I used any amount of throttle while the clutch was depressed.

I was hoping that the assist would be less digital and gradually deactivate. Does anyone know if Ford's is similar?

I have had stick-shift Mustangs for 25 years. So I ordered an automatic.

Why? Because aside from the Mustangs, I have also had an Infiniti G35 and my current MKZ with automatics, and I have grown rather fond of the instant gratification of just punching it and passing someone. With the Mustangs, I am always in the wrong gear when an opening comes (unless I want to cruise in 3rd for miles, waiting for it) and so the automatic is WAY faster from decision to completed pass. In fact, both cars mentioned are just way faster than my old 5.0 Mustangs in passing maneuvers like that. Surprising.

I think the paddle shifters are going to be fun, and we already know the AT is as fast or faster than the MT Mustang GT, so the more I thought about it, the more sense it made for me. That, and it made the "do I get the Performance Package" conundrum a lot simpler, LOL.

Not trying to change your mind or anything......

But......you can always make sure your (manual) mustang is in the right gear when trying to pass someone or take an opening (or whatever). This is part of driving a stick. You know/anticipate what you are going to do and set your car in the right gear (in advance).

Auto or manual, each has its fun. Just in different ways though.

Going for a manual. Fingers crossed that construction on 485 will be long finished by the time I get it (4 lane highway to 8 lanes whoo!). I sincerely hope it eases the traffic congestion @ 8 AM and 5 PM. There are some days where im dead tired after work and that combined with the traffic makes me quite grumpy. I should look into some back road alternate routes...

Most of the time they are plagued by the slow drivers of charlotte :rage: . Here's to hoping.

Originally from Germany I grew up with manual transmissions. I am driving a S197 convertible with manual transmission. But after an accident this January, I am looking to get a automatic because I can't use my left hand anymore like before. And steering plus shifting in the winter time with one hand - yeah I guess that wouldn't be that much fun. :-) But I like the paddle shifter. So if I like, I still could shift with them.

The one factor that no one seems to address in their decision to opt for their new 2015 Mustang in either M/T or A/T is residual or re-sale value. True, Mustangs still have marketability with a Stick Shift, much more so then most any other Vehicle (but) unless your planning on keeping your Vehicle forever, its a "fact" Cars equipped with A/T return much higher trade-in values when you finally switch Vehicles. I work PT at Manheim Auto Auctions and the prices on identical price Cars with M/T are vastly lower on the Auction Block then for Car with similar condition & mileage with A/T, and this is true even with "high-end" Vehicles like BMW, Audi, Ferrari, etc.

Phil - I rather doubt that many people buy new Mustangs with the manual transmission purely on a financial basis.

Given that, when you weigh the difference in resale value against the difference in initial outlay (including the difference in finance cost in most cases), it ends up being pretty cheap entertainment.

You could double the difference in resale value between an AT car and its MT twin and it still wouldn't be enough for me to buy, keep and actually drive an AT car. Not even close.

I personally enjoy driving a manual transmission but (still) won`t order one for my new 2015 Mustang. Why? Simple.
A lot depends also on where you live and drive. In SO FL where both stop and go Urban driving is a way of life and even driving on I95 and The Florida Turnpike is almost as bad with bumper to bumper traffic night and day caused by "Rubber Necking" as folks cause back ups for miles to witness either a fatal car crash or someone changing a flat tire. That gets tired real quick. By the way, want to see the future of M/T for North America? Ferrari has dropped M/T as an option for MY 2015 for its best selling Sports Coupe, "California". The writing is on the wall.

I wasn't trying to change your mind for your future car purchases.

Only providing a counterpoint to the matter of resale, which I really think is a non-starter as far as those who choose a manual transmission are concerned.

[Reference to Ferrari] you aren't telling me anything I don't already know about. I won't even buy a 4-door sedan with an AT either, and that's had me jumping from mfr to mfr for the last 30 years.
